Hi everyone,

Just looking for some advice of which WP plugin you use for copyright protecting your website articles? What do you find the easiest to use? What works best in terms of protecting your site from copyright infringement?

Any thoughts or wisdom is appreciated as always. Thanks & have a great day,

Susan

You can’t stop plagiarism, but I do use a right click protect plug in. I find it is the lazy person who cuts and copies and they can’t be bothered if they have to do more than this, like taking a screen shot and rewriting etc. I use “secure copy content protection “ and it hasn’t slowed things dow. Personal choice only of course.

I agree with you regarding plagiarism. But some measure of slowing down someone who just wants to copy might be worth it. Thanks for sharing what you use. I'm going to have a look.

When we first started to thought about copyrighting issues too.

But we know that our WordPress blogs have a canonical URL which shows where the original content came from and it is indexed as such.

Trying to protect content can't really be done because one way or another a hacker can copy it.

People who copy other people's content are going to have trouble coming up with original content so they aren't going very far.

Thanks for responding and giving me me your thoughts.

Although I am not sure what a canonical URL is, that sounds like a good option.

It is the URL for you pages and posts. It is automatically set by WordPress when you publish a page or post..

Hi - although you can use a plugin to stop people right-clicking and copying your content, there are plenty of other ways a determined hacker can steal your content.

I personally don't bother. Adding an extra plugin that won't necessarily solve the problem, could slow your site down.

Hi Diane...that is the dilemma. I was wondering about slow downs with plugins, hence the delay in adding one. Thanks for sharing your perspective :-)

Hey Susan,

See screen print below...

Personally, I have NO copyright protection on my MMO sites. I only use one on my Genealogical hobby site.

What I do with my MMO and business sites is to REMOVE the RSS feed, which is what many IP addresses were using to strip the posted information from my site with.

My hobby site was literally being copy and pasted into Wiki sites that Google ranked above my hobby site that has been sharing THAT information since the '90s, when I started it.

Whatever we share online can be easily used, just so long as auto-stripping is not an option... leastwise that's my take on this.

Hope you find this helpful.

Hey Trish,

Thanks so much for your thoughts on this. I've been reading some blogs talking about their content being copied verbatim and that's frustrating to think of the work involved only to have someone profit by copying exactly.

I know things online are fair game but I appreciate your insights. From a non-techie perspective, how do I remove the RSS feed?

Sounds like you've been in the game a long time. Impressive!
