So it's been a while since i worked on any sites, 2 kids under 3 and all that has kept me out of the loop! Anyway, I'm back in, and wordpress is totally different. I like the new block format the editor now has, but I'm having real trouble editing posts. when I'm in post writing mode, none of the usual editing options are available above the block (such as insert media, change colour of heading, change text size) but they are all there clear as day in a page.

why are they there in a page but not a post? is there some setting i need to change? I couldn't find anything within the display or the type of blocks to change to improve it, i could figure out how to insert an image and change text colour by digging around, but I'm still completely stumped as to how to change the colour of my h2 and h3 headings inside my posts. and i've picked a great custom colour for them too, lol.

Please help. Thank you in advance wealthy affiliates!

It's called Gutenberg, and it's received VERY mixed to negative feedback from what I've accumulated online, myself included. I tried it once and axed it. You can find the Classic Editor plugin and install it. All new sites on WA have this plugin pre-installed (thank goodness). While Wordpress insists Gutenberg isn't going anywhere fast, its 2.2 plugin rating and the Classic editor's high rating tells me they'll ditch it before all know it. It's the absolute worst idea Wordpress has ever had in my opinion.

With the new wordpress Gutterberg, you are dealing with blocks elements. Everything is a block. It's not that difficult but you need to spend sometimes to play with it. For the time being, you can upload the Classic Editor as suggested by Robert below.

Here's Marion's training on how to edit a post using Block Editor Joe:)

Why not use the Classic Editor as well.
(you can actually switch between the old and the new if you have downloaded the Classic Editor Plugin).

I personally don't use the new format but stick to the Classic.
Enjoy your Sunday.

Hello, thank you for answering :)
I should have said, that is another option I can only see in pages, not posts haha. It's very annoying!

I used Gutenberg once and haven't used since. It looked cool until I started with it and after wasting an hour or two trying to figure it out, scrapped it for the Classic.

Some members prefer Gutenberg and some don't.
Each to his or her own and it is a personal choice.

Hi Emily, I also use WP Edit with the Classic Editor
https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-edit/

And I also use Fonts to give me more Fonts and Styles.

https://wordpress.org/plugins/fonts/

No harm in giving them a go and if you don't want them just delete them.
Enjoy your Sunday.
