Hi,

I am just wondering: How many plugins does your site have?

Because I cannot understand how you can keep it at 5 plugins...
I am always ending a lot higher, around 9 or 10 actually...
(And I try to use only what I need, no extra gadgets...)

Grtz,
Bert

This seems to be a question that comes up almost daily. It does seem a little confusing.
Would rule of thumb be as long as your site health is OK then do not worry about it or it not as simple as that?

In my opinion, yes you can say it like that, but the reference is not the plugin health in the site manager, but rather the performance that you can measure for example with this tool: http://tools.pingdom.com/

average of 15, I have read Kyle advice is 10- 11 plugins, although your site record will give you 0% if you have over 10 plugins

Wow, you have an average of 15...
That surprises me!

Yes I know of this tool, but I am here to experience every website development tool, and to learn all about this, I am greateful to earn once in a while a dime or so, but my goal is to learn as much as possible from website development, and which special effects there are to explore.

No, but I did not mean that you will have a slow site because of your plugins, it was more: You would be surprised how good your performance still is, also with all those plugins...

Nice to hear, have you checked:) just be sure some of the plugins are below the fold!

It is not about the amount so much as the ones that slow you site down

Asking this question always brings a lot of different opinions, doesn't it.
There are many others, but I liked this easy to understand post by PJ.

Thanks, KrazyKat, there is a lot of useful info in that post and the link to test the performance of your site is also super.
Did already a test and on 1 site I had 75/100 and the other 83/100 so I do not have to worry... :-)

Right now I have 9, but one of my plugins holds other little plugins so in total about 14-16 for me.

Indeed Anthony also something I noticed, for some plugins you need 2 - 3 extra little plugins... And like you say, it quickly increases the number of plugins...

Loading the site has to be performant and if that's not the case, then I start checking my plugins from now...

gosh you have a lot, think it is not so much the number but the impact on the site

I have 12 and never had any probs with that amount.
I think it depends what theme you use.
Some members say this or that theme can only handle so many.

That's of course also a possibility, but for me when the website loads quickly enough, I don't see an issue...
Thks for your feedback;..

You can have as many plug ins as you want. But do not ever use buddy press. It's a bad idea.

13 here. There is no way to have below 7-8 if you only follow the lessons, so I would say forget number 5.

Glad everybody has the same opinion...

Probably because there is no other way. My guess is that the myth of 5 came from a video of Matt Cutts where he describes his 5 plugins saying that is enough. Well he did not pass WA training I guess.

Here is a plugin I have, which is really useful, especially when you are in need of more plugins then just 5.

You are welcome.

Well, I can't stay at 5 either. I have 7 or 8, but these are plugins I really need and find useful too for my sites.

The reason for less plugins is that the more you add the slower your page may load. And we all know, when a website doesn't show up quickly we will loose a visitor.

But, in the end you need to do what is the best for your purpose. :)

Good question! I noticed my site health wasn't good because I had too many plugins .I deleted some and kept only 6 and my site health improved drastically.

Hey.
There's not really a limit.
Like you and others said the load speed and functuality is important.
I think I have around 10.

Thks for you input...
There is already a kind of "general amount" and that is apparently 10....

Bert

Five is suggested, but many use 10-11, it is how something affects your load time which is of utmost importance....
Reply
AngelsBird Premium
Yes, but that I think is important to check indeed, the load time has to be ok and actually that is more the reference I use then the number...

Bert
