I have been able to paste a spreadsheet onto a post but the grid border is too light. I would like to have a darker border on my post.

Can anyone help with a solution?

Thanks.

The modification below produces the changes on an excel table on my website listed below:

I will leave this up for a day.

When you copy an excel spreadsheet onto a post / page, it creates a table. Each Excel cell is a "td" element. An easy way to put a box around each cell is to go into your css editor (it is on your theme) and add the following CSS:

td {
border: 1px solid black;
}

That will put a 1 pixel thick border around each cell in your Excel spreadsheet.

Notice that the CSS uses brackets and not parenthesis. The brackets on the keypad are to the right of the p key { and }.

This way you don't have to try to wait for the developer, special help or plugin to make your modifications.

If you want to center the data within each cell, then just change the above to:

td {
border: 1px solid black;
text-align: center;
}

That will put a black box around the cell and center its content.

Then, if you want a thicker border, you increase the number of px, or you can change the color to red:

td {
border: 3px solid red;
text-align: center;
}

Hope this helps!

Thanks Dave for your response and easy to follow instructions. I will try it out. Do I have a css editor for the whole theme or do I do apply it to one page?

The css editor which should be somewhere on your theme will affect the whole theme.

Hey Bruce,

It depends on the theme you are using. Discover what CSS script handles your theme's tables and then you can alter that by adding customized CSS to that page.

You could go to your theme's support page and simply ask the developer how to make your table grid border darker.

You do NOT need to tell the developer that you created this table copying and pasting from Excel, as WordPress has already created the table for you. You only need to know how to darken the grid border.

Hope you find this helpful.

You can make a screen shot and use a free editor such as Canva and add a border then use the image as your spreadsheet

That's a great idea, thanks for the advice, Catherine! I use Canva but sometimes forget about these simple things when I need something else.

Thanks Catherine. Not only have you given me an answer but, you have put me onto Canva which I never knew existed.

It looks like they have many other uses that can jazz up my site a little.
