The text vision of some of my older posts within my WP dashboard is like a rubbish tip. Very messy due to my inexperience and changing a zillion things in the visual editor.

I have hundreds of saved too over the months.

I've heard of plugins to delete old drafts. But what about cleaning up messy, unnecessary text coding?

The messy coding would have to be filtered out for my website posts to load correctly, and thus affect load times - yes/no? I just want my WP dashboard and all functioning at it's best as well as my website.

Anyone know of a safe, tested plugin I can use for both, or even with additional features. One that won't wipe out my site when it's wading through the junk I've inadvertently created. Free or paid, I'm open to all suggestions.

Thank ye all!

If you use the suggested plugins, de-activate them when you are finished, so they will not load each time.

The WP Clean up? Have you tried it Terea?

I have not, but the plugins I do not use actively I keep turned off to help load time.

I know where you are coming from Terea. No I'm talking about my website posts loading quicker, not WP. But thanks for the tip about keeping some plugins turned off if possible.

Yes, too many plugins can slow down your loading times. However wp-clean-up and wp-smush-it graphic optimizer will actually help with this problem.

Always make sure you have a backup of the database before you cleanup and optimize your database.
One plugin I've used on a few sites is http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-clean-up/ but it's not been updated in a year.
It will allow you to cleanup all them post revisions and other junk stuff bloating up your database.
I thought I'd uploaded a video here but can't find it, if you want to see how it works http://youtu.be/HtJ4o024pd8

As for cleaning up posts, that's probably going to be a manually task.
What type messy code is in the posts.

The more plugins that you add to your website the slower loading time you will get.

Hi Tommy it's not that that's bothering me. I want my old drafts deleted and my coding cleaned out. Incorrect coding in the text area is not good for wp to load and function. It confuses it.

You can delete the drafts just as long as they have or been published yet. After you delete you would have to delete again which is called permanent delete

Also you can go into your text side of the edit page you will have to delete the extra code that strings itself single line at the end of your page all the way down after your closing part of your content

I'll have a look for the old auto saved drafts. I'm heading over to WP now.
