I recently wanted to add a bought plugin to my site. But the program/plugin requires that your hosting site supports PHP files.

Now I don't know what that means, so -

1. Does WA hosting support PHP files, as my site is hosted here?

2. If WA doesn't, can I add some other plugin to my site so that it will accept PHP files or would I need to get hosting elsewhere?

Thx fellow WA'ers.

Hey Annie. The issue won't be php, WordPress themes are created in it, you can see when you check Appearance > Editor the .php files in the right hand column. However, if the plugin requires an outgoing connection to a remote server, then it may well not work with hosting services such as WA and GoDaddy, etc. see Carson's & Craig's (@welshy) comments here https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/everything-wordpress/wa-does-not-allow-outgoing-connections :) Rich.

Hi Rich, thanks for the help. Remote servers may well be what was in question. I'll zip over and have a read of the link you've posted.

Hi Annie - is it specifically a WordPress plugin?

If not, I would search for one that is written specifically for WP - that way it can easily be added to your site here. If it's not a plugin - then making it work on your site could mean messing around with some of the code within your theme, and the possibility to "break things" is there, unless you're sure what you're doing.

I hope this helps?

All the best, Mark

Yes it's for WP. I'm not going to touch my site Mark, I'm not techie yet by far. Jeffrey below has told me that WA is PHP friendly. I can't remember where I read that some sites don't support PHP add ons.

From what I can remember it was along the lines of sites that specialise in hosting (I take it Hostgator, etc) are able to take any type of add ons files and they will work, where as others that offer it as part of a service, there could be problems trying to get PHP files to work.

You'll have no problem using any WordPress plugins on WA hosting. WordPress is written in PHP so WA hosting definitely supports PHP files.

Thanks Jeffrey. BTW what are PHP files anyhow?

PHP is a server-side scripting language. It's used to make dynamic web pages. PHP files can be viewed with any text editor, like notepad.
