Just wondered what people's thoughts were on keeping the date displayed on the top of a blog post vs. hiding it.

Some themes offer the option to hide the date & time with a click of a button. On other themes you need to manually remove a bit of code to do it.

On one hand visitors like to see how recently posts were added. On the other, they can also see how long it's been since you added something new.

Or do site visitors even pay much attention to blog post dates?

Or should you go back to old posts, say after 3 - 6 months and just change the date they were published to keep the site looking fresh?

I also like seeing dates, especially when I'm doing research. I want the latest data. I kind of feel manipulated when there's no date.

Yeah, know what you mean. You then feel like you have to start scouring the site further, only now you aren't really interested in the content, you're more interested in if it's still current. After a few pages, you cant find a date, you don't want to waste your time on an old site - so you head back to Google.

I agree with Nathan, that is how I feel when I read something, I want to know how recent or old the post is. :)

I appreciate when a blog has a date on it that way you can see how recently the information was posted. I removed dates from one of my sites, but am planning on putting it back on.

i did a site before with no dates on the pages - I thought showing the dates made it look a bit cluttered at the top of the page. But there was an updated widget in the sidebar that I manually added the date to, aong with a quick update / bit of news. So people could see the site was still being looked after.

Hi - I don't like seeing posts where the date isn't shown.

If it's not there, I don't know how relevant the information is to me at that time (think about PBNs and google updates - read an old post, and you could think they were the best things since sliced bread)!

If you update your posts to provide current information, then I see no harm in changing the date on them.

All the best, Mark
