Does anyone know if I absolutely have to have a WordPress website installed for a domain in order to setup email forwarding?

I recently transferred a domain into WA from another hosting company, but I am not ready to take the existing site down to put up a new one. In the meantime, however, I would like to set up a site specific email address.

I have set up many email forwards for other sites in the past and am following the same steps I've used before. This time, however, my forwarding addressed are not being verified by my Gmail account.

Instead, I'm getting a 505 5.1.1 email bounce error when I'm attempting to verify.

I suppose setting up the email can wait until I have a new WP site live for this domain, but if anyone know whether I can setup email forwarding prior to revamping the site, that would be helpful.

Thanks!

Yes, you can get a New Email Forward choosing a domain name even though you haven't installed a WordPress site there. The domain name must be shown in the dropdown menu (choose a domain) to be able to choose it. Otherwise, the domain name transfer has not been completed yet.
Did you try through

It’s straightforward.

Yes. I've been trying through that link and have been unsuccessful at getting the mail forward to be verified through Gmail. I've done this successfully with mail forwards for several other websites, which is why I'm slightly thrown that it hasn't been straightforward this time around...

What is the exact message you receive after clicking on Create (New Email Forward option)? You may want to share a screenshot.

Hi you can go here https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/email

And set up a webmail or forward to a mailbox.

Yep your site has to be pointed to WA servers, in order to use webmail.

Tutorial If issue persists I would reach out to site support.
