I have one of the parts of my article like this:

How to Play:

  1. One person (known as the victim) lies on their back (eyes closed) with their head in the lap of the "storyteller"

  2. The storyteller slowly rubs the temples of the "victim" while reciting 1 of 2 different short stories (if one don't work try the other one.)

  3. Once the story is done the "victim" sits up and lifts their shirt (if it worked light red cat scratches should be on their back.

and it STILL shows up like that in the edit window of wordpress but on the actual website it shows up like this without the numbers (you can see it here:

https://paranormalpurchase.com/ritual-games-cat-scratch-how-to-play/

because for some reason when I copy and paste it it still has the numbers...why can't I see them on the actual page?)

You are trying to make what is called an "ordered list." To do this, you have to put in some HTML.

You have to wrap your three list items in an <ol> tag, and then list each item wrapped in a <li> or list item tag like this:

<ol>
<li>One person (known as the victim) lies on their back (eyes closed) with their head in the lap of the "storyteller"</li>
<li>The storyteller slowly rubs the temples of the "victim" while reciting 1 of 2 different short stories (if one don't work try the other one.)</li>
<li>Once the story is done the "victim" sits up and lifts their shirt (if it worked light red cat scratches should be on their back.</li>
</ol>

then when you publish your page it will look like this test page on my website:

(Just copy that link into your browser window). Hope this helps!

<h3>One person (known as the victim) lies on their back (eyes closed) with their head in the lap of the "storyteller"</h3>
</li>
<li>
<h3>The storyteller slowly rubs the temples of the "victim" while reciting 1 of 2 different short stories (if one don't work try the other one.)</h3>
</li>
<li>
<h3>Once the story is done the "victim" sits up and lifts their shirt (if it worked light red cat scratches should be on their back.)</h3>
</li>
</ol>

This is how it looks in the "text" portion of the page when I'm in the editing and it looks the way I want but when I go to the page of the actual website the numbers don't show up

On the page you are writing on, look to the right and hopefully you will see "Page Attributes" and under that "Parent" and "Templates". You are possibly using a "default template" which will not do what you are wanting.

If you have one that says something like "full page template" or "full width template" then choose that - that should be a template without any sidebars on it.

Then paste your ordered list on the Text portion and try publishing that.

I repeated this procedure on my site like this:

Let me know what happens!

Oh yeah I am using a default template (I copied over the one I used as a free starter member)

If I change to a premium theme will everything stay where it is placement wise or will I have to go and repost everything?

Can I ask what free theme you are using and I will try to figure this out for you. I know this is frustrating but you will figure it out - there is a learning curve with everything worthwhile so do not be discouraged!

I'm using Tirpitz

OK - I had to really go looking for the Tirpitz theme because it is an older site.

It looks like it has not been maintained over the years and likely has compatibility issues as shown here at the WordPress site:

https://wordpress.org/themes/tirpitz/

The problem is that the theme is very limited in what it can do - there is no way without going into the code and making a php page template to get rid of the sidebars and give the functionality you want.

Unless you want to learn how to make a WordPress theme from scratch you do not want to go there.

So ... I would recommend a much better free theme to start with (that is being kept up to date) and is generally recognized as one of the best out there and I was able to use this new theme to make this:

https://hhlcms.org/sample-page/

(This is one of my experimental WordPress sites)

Then what I would suggest is to run through a YouTube tutorial on how to use the OceanWP, theme. (WA won't let me put a video in here).

You could search on YouTube for tutorials on how to use this very good free theme.

This would be in my opinion a much better option than to try to work with an outdated theme that is no longer being updated / supported.

I hope this helps.

Did you use the number list button right under the Title in the sitecontent platform? or manually typed in 1, 2, 3?

Try inserting the number list using the button.
