I have changed my settings and changed my theme but I cannot get my homepage to do what I want. I would like people to easily see what articles are available to select. Instead, one post is followed by another and another and another...

In what way do you want "people to easily see what articles are available to select. "? In an ideal situation, how would you achieve this? By category? By tag? By a search box?

By "homepage" do you mean the main content or the side panels? or the header menu?

It sounds like you should categorize (and optionally) tag your articles and then use Appearance -> Widgets or Appearance -> Menus to create clickable links to specific content.

On my site I do almost all of those for instance, I have widget called "Must read posts" that I created via Appearance -> Widgets ... in that widget, I put links to certain pages and posts.

In Appearance -> Menus, I defined what I wanted to show in each of the menus.

Thanks for the input. I think I'm catching on. I didn't realize that I had to manually add the "read more" into each post in order to break it up. I have that straightened out now. I like your "must read" idea. I may incorporate that when I get more posts.

Mostly, I guess my frustration comes from seeing a sample theme, downloading it and then not being able to make mine look like the example.

I'm getting closer!

I dont manually add the "read more" into each post to break it up... the theme does that.

Regarding not being able to get your theme to look like the sample, most paid theme authors offer support. But most of the time, you just have to look into the Appearance section and understand how to configure the widgets and menus to get the look you want.

Thank you. I am making good progress. Yesterday, I stumbled upon a beautiful website that I am going to follow and try to model mine after. Overall, it's pleasant work.

You can set your home page to be a static page and many themes even offer a homepage template to use for that purpose.

Maybe that's what I need. I wish I could find examples to know for sure. I'll play with that angle. Thank you.

Hello Theresa, You should be able at add a widget called Recent post to a side bar. Then all your post are shown in that side bar widget.
Hope this helps !

I have that, thanks. It disappears when someone starts to scroll through my post and I am afraid that they will just exit if they don't want to read the next post that automatically follows.

Instead of recent posts, some themes offer "related posts" ... there are also plugins which offer related posts. All of the themes here offer related posts as a built-in feature - https://themesdna.com

If there is no setting in the theme you can try in the WordPress admin. Under the dashboard click Setting / Read. You have a choice of how many posts are displayed and if it is displayed in full or summary.

Maybe it's a glitch in my theme. I tried to display summary and updated it, but nothing changed. Thank you.
