Hi all. I have a frustrating issue. I'm very new to this. I wanted to create a static page with a "coming soon" type message for one of my sites. After some fooling around, I did it just fine, but then started experimenting with another theme (stupid!), which I decided not to use. Stuck with my original. Long story, but I now have only 2 pages listed in my page index: the static page I created on my original theme and the privacy policy page to that, which isn't doing anything. I just left it. When I preview the static page, it looks fine, but when I Visit Site, what's there is an earlier version of this page I did, while trying to figure things out. It's a mess, and I want to get rid of it, but don't know how! I deleted cookies, browsing history, and all drafts and earlier versions from my pages index, but I can't get rid of it! The correct page is sitting there in my index, but won't show on the site. 😫 I'm losing it!

Hello friends! I have a problem with my site and I cannot find the answer anywhere so I've decided to try here.
Basically from the home page of my site the images are not visible. You can only see images once you open a single post. Why is that? I tried to find anything that could be related on my setting, but nothing..
Thanks for your help,

Salvo

Do you have your blogroll on the homepage? And have you added a featured image?
You can find the place to add a featured image to the right on your WP dashboard, and if it's not there, you have to activate it on top of the dashboard in screen options when you are in the post-edit mode

Yes, for your header image on each post, use select "featured Image" and check "show" box (bottom right sidebar in Word Press), and image you select will appear on each post on landing page too. Hope this helps......

Hello Kyle and Co.! :)

Can I ask you what theme this website has? I love that you have a black background menu with buttons and icons, and the menu is static, on home page as well as on every other page here.
I found only white background menu themes that move with the whole page and it's not really nice for users. Or probably you don't have a static page as homepage, but only the posts page, that's why it doesn't move?
And another thing: how can I add the buttons SIGN UP and LOG IN next to the other categories in the Menu like on WA homepage?

If anyone knows if to point me to right courses or articles about this, I thank you immensely!!!!!

The WA website is custom.

Typically, a dark background with white lettering is hard for people to see. Better to stick with a white background and dark lettering.

Much of what you are asking is covered in the training.

HI Kyle, Where do I access the "Everything Wordpress - Classroom?

I would be useful if under the "Classrooms" panel to the left, if there was a direct link to that specific classroom.
Or a visual map of the curriculum we could click on to go to it??

Seeing the whole list of classrooms is a bit tricky.

Hover over "Classrooms" in the left column first to open the list. Reposition your mouse over the list of classrooms **before** scrolling down. (#1 below)

Click on the "Everything Wordpress" classroom to open it. (#2 below)

Hi BobBarr,
thanks for the visuals. I did do this, and it took me to the "Everything Wordpress" area. This is exactly where I got here by doing that. I clicked on the upper tabs on the page as I noted above in my original post - (videos, courses), but when I clicked on the training materials the information those areas are very old.

I'm looking to easily locate the most current training materials for each classroom.

Hi everyone,
I'm using the Heiro theme for my site, and I'm trying to get an image from each post to go with the post's excerpt on the home page. In customize theme under the single posts/pages tab, there is check-boxes to show featured images for both pages and posts.

I have a question about the answering or replying on a comment on my site/blog?

I notice that my gravitar (i think that this is a gravitar) picture is not coming up. Google knows what my picture is because when I am logged in with my gmail account it comes up in the top right circle. Maybe it doesn't grab it from Google?

How do I get my picture to show up in this location?

When I created my gravatar I had to clear out my memory cache and reboot my computer, it showed up after that. however, I have to do this frequently with a number of issues and I think it's because of Windows 10 screwing everything up, so it may not solve your issue but it's a shot.

Hi guys, I hope I am posting this in the correct spot to get a good answer.

I was wondering if someone could help me with verifying an old site I have had for years. It is not a part of the WA platform and I can't move it over. I have never use Analytics with this site.

I am signed in to my google account I go to Google Analytics and I got the UA # and placed it into my All in one SEO appropriate area and updated. I go over to Google Console and see my site listed. I click the button to verify with Google Analytics and then do the capcha and click verify but it always gives me this error "The tracking code used by your site is not associated with your Analytics account" I don't understand why it would say this when I am logged in with my gmail email address and I just entered the proper UA # that I am aware of.

What am I doing wrong?

Wordpress Dashboard is the "behind the scenes" listing of your website broken down into its individual bits.

So if your domain is: mywebsite.com then if you click on "Site Rubix" in the box to the left - build your websites here.

Then you will have a list of your domain names (ie websites)

Click on LOGIN for your website: mywebsite.com

What you then get is your Dashboard!

Just take it slow and look at it closely, soon enough it will come together

Hi,
I am building my first site and I carefully picked a template. Now as I try to add posts and pictures, the template seems gone. I must be missing an obvious step. How do you know what size image to upload, how does it fit into that template? Can anyone direct me to a lesson? Do I have to upload the demo and then replace their content with my own?
Reply
nudge1969 Premium
Do you mean a theme? When starting a website you usually pick a theme. Although not sure how a theme can appear gone. If a template, where did you add a template?
Reply
Sailorblue Premium
Sorry, yes I picked a theme. I guess I expected some information on .. add an image 240 x240 here kind of thing. I add content and figuring out how to get it to look like the theme is what I was asking about. I did eventually find the widgets so maybe that is how its done. I am so not computer savvy! LOL
I just wondered if there was a section on this that I am missing.
I expected boxes or more of a framework I guess. Learning!
Reply
nudge1969 Premium
I see. In general no, there are no boxes that an image sits into. Write your content and add an image wherever the cursor is. When placing the image you can choose to have it left, right or centre of page.
I’m sure Kyle goes through this in the first certification course.
Something to keep in mind though, decide how large you want your image in a program like Windows ‘Paint’. WordPress will reduce images to fit but it will slow down your website.
There are some themes out there that are more template based as you say. I use one with modules. For instance, text module, image module, menu module etc. If you want info on this let me know.
Reply
nudge1969 Premium
Sorry, Certification Course 2. Here's Kyles training on inserting images.
Reply
MozMary Premium
yes, precisely, all we get is a blank theme and we have to replace all their content with our own- it is a bit of a shock first time when that lovely theme you uploaded now seems just bare bones and blank - but what you saw first was the demo, an example of how you can position your images and how it will look when you fill it out - you may have to create menus, sidebars, footers

remember to follow along the training step by step as Kyle will get you to fill out the most important parts first, then you can use the search bar to get more training on menus, widgets, images, etc.

My theme is in intact, but background, went to black...probably because I published it first, and now, can"t edit it. I have a picture to download, saved, but no way to upload to site. Thank, you, Barb!
Reply
Sailorblue Premium
I'm not sure what you mean, background went to black, can you send me your site address. When I upload a picture, I size it first and then go to my site dashboard and click on media to get to my media library.
Then I click on the "Add New" button at the top. Then I drag my file into the drop zone, add the metadata and save it.
Then I go to the page where I want the image to appear, go in to edit post and add it by using the add media button. You can leave a picture wherever your cursor was when you selected the add media button.

If you knew all this and I missed something, I apologize. I don't understand why you would not be able to edit something. What does that look like?

Best of luck, hope this helps.

Hey Joseph,

Then I suggest taking Google's instructions here: http://bit.ly/1a5ZrY2 and going back over them one at a time to see if something ... anything in the steps you are taking is missing.

To be honest with you, I have never heard of the issue you describe happening. Which, is what leads me to think that MAYBE you've skipped a step somewhere.

Google is NOT user-friendly, and you're not alone in your struggle to understand. Please, DO let me know how you make out with this issue.
Reply
sephjr Premium
Yeah I thought so.. I tried searching here in wealthy affiliate but it seems that there are no other people who had the same issue as mine. I also tried searching in google. I found a comment in a post that had the same issue but his question is not answered. I also tried searching in the help forum of Google Analytics and no luck there as well.

I already tried your suggestion but it is still the same.
I tried signing up through my phone but after I pressed the 'get tracking id' button, it says 'resource is not available'. So I searched that in google and found a solution. They say clearing up your cache, using vpn or try again after some time. I tried using vpn but it does not help. And it seems that those people who experience the 'resource is not available' issue are those who are done in the sign up process.

Now, I'm thinking of using a different computer and a different internet connection but I only have one computer. I am also thinking of sending my concern to Google Analytics Help Center. And I think it is best to deal with this issue after I complete the certification course level 5. The frustration I am having because of this is affecting my training. And considering that my website is still new, I guess it's not a problem if I don't have analytics yet.

Thanks for your concern by the way :)
Reply
Triblu Premium
Wow Joseph, I am VERY impressed with the extent you have gone to in trying to resolve this issue.

Definitely contact Google Analytics Help Center ... with screen prints if you can.

Also, try NOT to do website stuff on your phone as mobile coding is too unreliable (at this stage) to depend on it doing a computer's job.

Again, you are correct that at this stage in your learning (and you've learned a LOT mister ... know this ... as MANY would have simply walked away letting this issue defeat them) to setup a website properly, not having Google Analytics is not a stopper for sure.

DO make sure you find a resolve so that you can use Google Analytics once your site has been completed (6 months to a year at the most) so that Google will credit you best,

You definitely have the attitude of a winner ... seriously you do! Hang in there. I'm looking forward to learning of your successes in the months to come!
Reply
sephjr Premium
Thanks for that.

I learned something new. your warning about the mobile stuff.. I'll take note of that.

You'll hear this argued six-ways-to-sunday. If you leave title and description blank then search engines decide what they show, but some people prefer to "force" their titles and descriptions by entering content in those fields in All-in-One SEO.

Here's an example of the difference http://d.pr/i/ay7Y

I've searched for "afternoon tea at the ritz". The first result shows Google deciding what to show from the post and emboldening my search term. The second one has a forced description so it doesn't show my search term.

I believe people are more likely to click on a result that shows their search term than one that doesn't, so I leave them blank.

However, a lot of people disagree with this philosophy. :)

You can speed indexing up by using Google Search Console.

I thought I might have missed something important here but for now I will just leave it blanc.

I saw something a while back, but cannot locate it now. It was a tutorial on how to add something to the main menu, but which served basically as a header for a drop-down menu, and which did nothing when clicked upon.

I am trying to do that now so that I would have a menu like:
Getting Started
-->Starting Out
-->Site Building
-->other topics....

So, as it stands now with what I have done, if someone clicks on the various topics, they go to the correct page. If they click on Getting Started, it takes them to a blank page that says "Category: Getting Started".

What I want is to have someone click on Getting Started without any effect.

How do I create a post that doesn't show up in the blog roll? You know, like the 404 page. I want to create one landing page for capturing emails in return for a free product and another page to sell a service from a link on the home page.

Does clicking "no index", "no follow" and "disable SEO" keep a post from showing up in the blog roll? Or do I need to do this as a page instead of a post?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, create a new PAGE, which may then be listed as one of your navigation bar options; or not, if you want people to find it through, for examples, clicking a link on another page/blog article on your site, clicking a link in an email or joining your list/newsletter. ~ Mike

Once you've created a page, by default, you usually have to manually add it to the navigation/menu bar. Just don't do that and it won't appear on that bar. ;)

Whether or not the page indexes in search results is a different function not related to whether or not your page shows through website navigation. And, actually, no follow and no index are kind of different, too. So, let me see if this will help. If you don't want the page to be "spidered/crawled" (same things) by the search engines and be indexed, you'd 'mark' it "no index." I do this with my privacy policy page, as most all sites have them and I don't need or want to compete to get my privacy policy indexed.

Hope that helps a little, Angela?

I've seen sites where you can click on the word "References" or "Sources" and the long list appears, like a dropdown. If you don't want to see the list, you click on the word again and the list folds up and disappears.

How can I do this on my site so my pages look cleaner without the long list of references showing all the time?

I'm not sure about a drop down, but in the meantime you could make the word a clickable link that opens up a new window to the references so that they're not all at the bottom of each page.

Gravatar sometimes takes a while to update your profile picture. I have had to wait a day before. The Google one puzzles me though, they are usually pretty good. Give it a day or so and see if it changes. It may be a glitch in their system at the moment. If not, you can ask in the Google support forum and see if anyone else has encountered it. Hi Kyle ~ in your training video there was an icon that you were unfamiliar with (a box with several horizontal lines) Just in case no one has 'enlightened' you previously, I thought I would. It's another way of 'justifying' your work (left, right, center or to fit the whole writing area) I use it a lot in writing newsletters when I'm using columns. You're probably using keyboard shortcuts to do the same thing, I just would be lost without the icons lol

Hey guys,

I am having issues uploading media to my website and i keep getting this error message "The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads/2016/08." After looking around a bit and people kept saying to download and FTP agent I did that but I am still very lost as to how the FTP agent works and how you connect it to your site, can anyone provide some insight?

Hey guys, I have a couple theme related questions.
1) I've put a lot of work into my site; however, I do not like my theme and want to change it. If I change it, will all my work still be there?

2) With whatever theme we choose, can we edit the image(s) that come with the theme, or are we stuck with them?

1- Yes, you just have to fix a few things like image placements and perhaps hyperlinks. Check if you have any broken links. Here’s the tutorial. 2- Yes, absolutely. Go to Appearance – Customize to edit/remove it.

Hi, I'm kinda frustrated. I'm trying to really get going and I'm stuck on the blocks'
I have my first niche, my own URL and I've selected a Wordpress theme. Wow I thought I'm going well. WRONG. I'm very visual. I cant find my theme, and I cant edit or populate my theme ( visual) unless I can actually see what it will look like when published. What do I need to do please?

To find your theme, go to Appearance – Themes. The one activated is your theme. To edit it, go to Appearance – Customize. You’ll see the changes you make live so you don’t have to go back and forth to see how it looks.

It sounds like you may have a problem with the visual editor. Look in the upper right corner of your edit window. You should see two tabs one labelled visual and the other text. If you click on visual and the page doesn't show anything but a blank window you probably have a theme or plugin conflict.

Put in a support ticket and they will get it sorted out for you.

Okay folks, I've installed the Asgaros plug in for forums. It shows on my left side admin menu and I can create forums there. How do I move them to the page I want them to show in? Right now, I don't know how to make it display correctly on my actual site. Thanks!
