How about you using GeneratePress theme as the majority here do.

GeneratePress is extremely light, fast, well coded, SEO optimised, flexible, adaptable and customisable.

GeneratePress Premium is even better highly recommended. And you can use it with page builders for example Elementor both free and tiered version.

However, I'd go with Reyhana's experience.

I also find that most free WordPress themes are not as maintained and sometimes do not fully function, because obviously the developers want you to purchase their premiums.

If something is clean coded, it won't be faulty or slow down site.

Hello Chris. I once had to change the theme of my website after it was well established because it was slowing down my website. Traffic went down by as much as 50% and it took around a month or two for my website to go back to what it was.

So I think that if it is a new website, only a few months old, changing themes might not affect it as much, but if it is well-established, I would say 1+ years old, then try not to change it too often and only when you need to.

I think that it has to do with the way that the code is written for the search engines to read it, re-index it and to re-rank all your posts, especially if you have many of them (I probably had over 200 posts on my website when I changed my theme).

Hope this helps.
