Hi everyone.

I currently have six active plugins on my website. In the Site Manager it says to keep plugins below five.

However, I'm not sure I can delete any of these plugins without compromising my site. In other words, I'm really happy with my site - looks, performance etc.

Should I keep things as they are? Or should I always keep plugins below five?

Thanks for your help!

Hi there,

I manage sites with anywhere from 7 to 25 plugins and they work absolutely fine.

The question is not 'How many' but 'How well are they coded'.

Just one poorly coded plugin will slow down or crash your site, whereas 25 well coded ones will result in a stable site that loads quickly and delivers the functionality you want.

Yes, you do need to keep the number of plugins as low as possible.

But this is more a case of reducing security risks. The more plugins you have, the bigger the code footprint on your site, which gives the hackers more to attack.

Just make sure you choose well coded, well supported plugins.

If you check your loading speed and everything is ok, then if everything else is alright, if it isn't broke, don't fix it!

The real issue with plugins is not so much how many, but how they might affect your site loading speed. If you have many large plugins then that will slow things down in order for them all to load.

Ideally, you want to have your site load in less than 2-3 seconds. We have become a very impatient world as taking longer than this will significantly reduce the number of people who will stay on your website.

There are sites that can check your loading speed and tell you if your site is too slow and even offer suggestions as to how to speed things up. And there are even plugins which will speed up your site loading! So I would not obscess too much about this right now.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the response Dave. Much appreciated.

Yes, we should try to keep it low but depending on what you are doing sometimes it is not possible. 6 I think is OK for now, you can work on refining it as you go along.
