Hi everyone, I am trying to install username and password to filezilla so I can upload a plug-in that won't upload the usual way. Thrive themes has informed me that this is the way to do it. I have followed Lady May's tutorial and cannot seem to get any further than adding log in details. Is there anyone that is familiar with filezilla that can help with this as I am really struggling, thank you in advance.

Hi Justine,

not sure if it's an issue on your end or the server, but I use FileZilla and that's how I successfully connect to my websites with it.

1) Open FileZilla and go to "File" ==> "Site Manager". This will open a window.

2) Now you need to set it up with your FTP files provided within WA. To access them, go here at WA to "SiteRubix" ==> Your website and click on "Details". Under "Access Details" you'll see "FTP Username" and "FTP Password".

3) Now go back to FileZilla and add the details like this:

Host: yourwebsite.com
Protocol: FTP - File Transfer Protocol
Encryptions: Only use plain FTP (insecure)

Logon Type: Normal
User: Your FTP Username as shown under Access Details
Password: Your FTP Password as shown under Access Details

4) Click "Connect".

This always works for me and should work just fine for you, too. If not, let me know.

Also, sometimes it doesn't connect. This can be a glitch in copy/paste your username and password from WA. Try to manually type it in the appropriate fields on FileZilla and see if that does the trick.

Another thing. Thrive Themes plugins are a headache and like to be uploaded via FTP. If you do that, you need to unzip the file first and only upload the plugin folder. The zip format will only work as upload within the WP Dashboard. Same goes for themes. :)

As I said, if you need additional help, let me know.

Hi Nicole, how are you, thanks for your email , also how do you unzip a file ? I keep getting a box coming up called Winzip asking me for money???? There must be another way

Hi there, doing good here. I hope it's the same for you. :)

Try to use 7zip. It's a freebie and I use it all the time. No issues so far. Here's the download link (no affiliation). Simply click on the very first link saying "Download". It will start the download shortly after that.

http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

Before you install it, I'd suggest you de-install and delete Winzip. It's still new to me that they ask you for money. Used to be a freebie. However, once 7zip is installed, go to the zip file and simply double click it. It will open a window and show you what's in the zip file. It should be just one folder with the plugin name. Just drag and drop this folder on your desktop or wherever you want it. It will automatically unzip the file.

Then log into your website via FTP and upload the unzip file (folder, not the zipfile) into "httpdocs" ==> "wp-content" ==> "plugins".

Sure, I use McAfee for my Antivirus & Firewall what do you use?

If you aren't sure what you are using for a firewall you can check and see, "assuming your using Windows" by going to the Microsoft window found on the bottom left hand side, Right click it, then look for control panel.

Click on control panel, then a new window will open up.
You will need to find System and security, once you locate it. Then click on it. And look for Windows Firewall, click to open it up.

Inside your control panel on the left hand side look for TURN Windows Firewall on or off. Click it to open and turn it off for about 15 to 20 mins, giving you enough time to change what you need.

Let's say you are using McAfee, you can gain access to McAfee by going to the bottom right side, "look for an arrow tip pointing up" left click and look for your antivirus software, click on it and then once it opens look for firewall.

Inside of McAfee mine says WEB and Email Protection if you are using the same then click on that, and turn off for 15,30,40 mins should be enough time to get the job done. Let me know if you still need help
