Does anyone know if there is a way to create small popups or hover-over text boxes on WordPress without having to send someone to a different page of my site. I know how to link things easily but for example, I would sometimes like to have a small text popup that gave perhaps a definition of a word.
Any ideas?

Not my idea. I used to write content for medical information sites (one of my many past lives) and we used them all the time for definitions etc.

You can do this with a wordpress plugin or sometimes some (usually premium) themes come with it built in.
an example here:

Ok will look that up. Thank you . Do you think it will slow things down too much though?

Its best to keep plugins to a minimum but a few shouldn't hurt!

Look at the ratings and reviews of the plugins and see if they mention anything about slowing site speed. You can also check your google page speed insights (you can handily access it directly through the Site Manager here at WA) before and after to check if it is having an impact.
