Can the "custom share buttons with floating sidebar" plugin show a count on each tile of number of shares?

I would really like to have that incorporated as part of my website. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello Matthew,

That plugin, ''custom share buttons with floating sidebar'' makes your share buttons look great on your website. However I wouldn't advise you to enable the count of shares, unless of course you have many shares already. It can have a negative impact on your website.

A few days ago I added a similar plugin SumoMe (Share), the sharing buttons look pretty similar to the plugin that you use and I can also enable the share counts (but I didn't as I don't have many shares). The only problem with SumoMe is that you can't remove the branding, the SumoMe crown logo from the sharing bar, unless you pay for a premium version, but otherwise it has many customization options.

Hope this helps,
Cristina

Thanks Cristina! and just curious, why would it have a negative impact?

Hello Matthew,

Take a lot at this WAbinar and go to the time 1:10:43. Even Jay said that is not ok to enable the share counts if there are not many shares, it can have a negative impact.

It's more like a psychological aspect, when people see that an article has many shares they are more tempted to read and share it, but when there are 0 or not too many and the article is a few days old, or even worse a few months, it can somehow influence a few of them not want to read it and leave the page...

Of course not everyone out there cares about the social sharing numbers on a website, but it can somehow influence a few

All the best,
Cristina

I don't think so. That was one of the reasons why I decided not to use that plugin. Plus, you'd have to buy the PRO version if you want the floating buttons to be mobile-responsive.

Yep, you're exactly right. I ended up buying the PRO version but it slowed down my site performance. Gonna have to do some digging on this and I'll get back to you.

Try the "Tweet, Like, Google +1 and Share" plugin by Sudipto Pratap Mahato. This plugin automatically keeps track of and displays a count of likes, shares, etc.
