In one of my sites, I got this problem of having the title and description that you put in theme's site identity still showing up even though I have already uploaded a theme header image.

That forced me to eventually abandon that section blank.

In order for the site to still have a title and description, I decided to just use the section in All In One SEO. What I have skipped in the theme's identity section, I filled them out in the AIO SEO input boxes.

Please correct me if you think I have done something wrong with this, as some of you here are more expert than me (lol).

Is it true that the input boxes in theme's identity section are just for aesthetic purposes only so that if you fill them out, your site will look good and normal?

And regardless of whether the input boxes in theme's identity section are filled or not, as long as you have filled out the boxes in All In One SEO, you're site will be okay with Google and the search engines?

You could leave it blank, as others have said.

I use CSS style to hide its display so that only the search engines see it.

If you wish, you can trying adding it in the Customize > Additional CSS box to see if it works with your theme:

#header h1 {
display: none;
}

Note: You may continue to see it while logged in as admin, but it won't be visible for visitors to your site.

If it doesn't work, simply remove it from the CSS field in the customize option. You won't hurt your site while using the Customize options. ~Jude

Great suggestion. I can understand some codes, so I will try this one. Thanks! :)

Hi Jude, I'm sorry to report that it didn't work. I will just leave title and tag line blank.

I didn't know you were using Heiro theme until I saw your screenshot.

Use this code instead

.site-title {
display: none;
}

You might see it while logged in but web users won't see it.

Leaving it blank shows up as an html warning or validation error when using the w3C validation checker. That's not an issue as long as one does not have too many validation errors. ~Jude

Gomer, for the same problem as you have with your header, I don't include my websites' title and tag line in the theme's General Settings

Also, I don't add these details in the SEO pugin.

My sites do not appear to be affected by this. I have many Page 1 rankings in Google.

I see. The effect will be minimal. That is the assurance that I want.

Thank you for responding. :)

Valerie, thanks for the great info. So I am removing website title from the tag and title section in the Theme's General Settings. Are you also saying to do the same in Main Settings on each page / post within the SEO All in One? Take care.

Mike, I'm not saying to do anything in SEO All in One. I don't use SEO All in One so I'm not familiar with the settings. I use Yoast SEO.

The reason for removing the Title tag and tag line in General settings is due to the Words appearing in the Header of the website. Even though I have a Header image, the Words can still show through. I tried changing the color of the Title tag and tag line to White, and it still showed in the Header.

I hope this helps.

I think it is still alright. AIO SEO will do the job nicely. Just leave your theme identity blank.

or change the theme. :D

Okay. Thanks for that. In what I can see now, the option of changing the theme is quite harder than leaving it blank. That got me thinking. If I change the theme, then I have to start all over again.

Are you referring to the section for title and tag line under customizing?

Yes, customizing theme. Will any mess in there affect SEO?

My suggestion (and I don’t know the theme) is to not leave anything blank. Even if you are using a logo. Aside from that I would contact the theme developer.

Then perhaps, I should removed the image logo, delete the code that I have inserted via theme code editor, and revert back to just having a text title and description.

Sometimes, there are training by members in here, that when followed, leads you to a mess rather than improvement.

Everything is trial and error. I think every suggestion including mine are meant with the best intentions however because we all work with different themes and software not every suggestion is going to work as it should for each person

I dont know if this will answer you exactly but will give you some more insight, as I have asked the same!

Thanks.

As for the SEO side, I have filled out the blanks in All In One SEO section of the site. The title, the home page description, and the keywords.

What concerns me is, will the mess in the theme side of things affect SEO? Like for example, missing title and tag line in the theme's appearance section.

I know, the theme section is for appearance purposes. Looking at my site, it looks normal to the ordinary eye. But whenever I log out, I am reminded that there's something abnormal with the site.. no blog title as shown in this screenshot.

Hopefully you get more insight on this thread, I see what you mean. That would give me cause for concern as well.
Maybe you should deactivate your theme and reinstall it.

There was a training here about "how to upload a logo in Hiero theme" by inserting a code via theme editor. I followed it up, never knowing that even if I upload an image logo for my Hiero theme, the original text title and description will not be erased. Worse, the two (title and tag line) got mirrored! There was title and tag line above the image logo, and another title + tag line below the image logo.

Come to think about it, under customing name and tag line, this is also used to label your tabs when people land on the site, not just for the logo. I would definitely fill that in.
