I did some training on this as it looks different in block editor, you can check it out here. I hope this helps you.

I should have looked in training too Stephen. I am sure yours is simpler to follow than my written instructions. I was a bit taken aback when I saw how much it had changed in Block editor.

Thanks Lily.

I only did it because it took me ages to figure it out. It looks different and wasnt easy. I hope this helps everyone.

I was just doing this today Chin.

Go into your dashboard and look on the left column for Appearance, click and look in the list for widgets, click. Now you will see all the widgets that you already have in your sidebar.
Scroll to the bottom of the list and you will see a + sign. This is what you click on to add a new widget but first, you will need to decide what you want to add.

I wanted to add a banner with a link to a product. So I created the banner in Canva as a Poster and downloaded it as a JPG to my computer.

Then I opened BeFunky which is free and resized it down to about 800 x 250 pixels and saved this back to my computer.

Now you can go back to that + button in the widgets, click. click on add an image, click the first button and it will take you to the usual image adder for your posts. Search for Image and download.

Click on the add link icon and apply. Then Save.
Click on view website and check that it's where you want it. If not go back into widgets and use the arrow buttons to move it up the list.

Take it one step at a time and you will do it. It's not as easy as it was.

Thanks, Yvonne, I was wondering if it was a bit convoluted but it makes sense when I read it back.

I was so delighted to get my banners into the side widgets and the links in them. A bit of teeth grinding went into the process. Lol

I understand. When I did my first lot of widgets I kept my fingers crossed that they worked.
