HI, why add another plugin to your site when you can do it quite easily in your text editor?

If you wish, I can give you some examples of how to to this or perhaps create some training that you can follow. Best wishes.

Thanks for your feedback. Really, i'm looking to add to the visual of my site and text editor makes that really difficult.

I'm not too sure about a plugin for bullet points, but a good free CTA button plugin is Mango Buttons.

Hope that helps,

Hello WA Family,

Been a part of WA since the beginning of 2016 and since I joined I've been slowly working away at building my website to not only something that makes me

I don't know if you have read this yet But there is no 'need' to chase after backlinks. I've never done a guestpost, forum/comment posting, press releases etc etc and I do fine. But I do try to post 1-2 times a week per site. I'd rather write content for my own site than spend countless hours begging for a guestpost/backlink. But that's just me. Google loves unique quality targeted content.

Thanks for the training. I'll take a look!

My tips:

- Publish content that your visitors need/want to know, not only what you think is important, so check what is going on quora, competitors etc.
- Engage with your visitors, request comments
- Be active on Twitter, not only with your own content, but also with other's by retweeting
- Review products
- target low-hanging-fruit keywords / evergreen content
- apply onpage SEO
- Keep on writing, continue
- start another site for more income
- PPC marketing...
- invest in themes/plugins etc.
- speed your site up.
- add more than twice a month content (more like 3 times a week)
- start with youtube, like Loes suggested. Videos linked within content will help both ways.
- start with email marketing (collect emailaddresses, startup batches, market products)

Steven

Hi Steven,

Thanks for your comment. I am currently implementing most of what you have mentioned above, but writing 3 times is a little difficult for me at the moment. As for YouTube, already have a channel setup, I just need so start posting some more. Any idea on how I can grow my backlink portfolio?

Have you considered to make some YouTubes?

Thanks for your comment!

My pleasure, success expanding your business:)

Learn more about hacks that do not cost you $$. For example: Test new channels and platforms for monetization by implementing (more) content curation and email round-ups. If you have great content you will succeed. If not, don't bother anyway.

Cheers!

If you have done email round-ups , I'd love to hear about your experience and perspectives.

I haven't yet, but my traffic is reaching the point where I will setup email captures fairly soon. I'll keep you in the loop!

Kool! I recommend making your email capture your top priority. You will find that your whole business proposition and growth rate hinges on it.

I submitted a sitemap to webmaster tools and the URL's are definitely much fewer than what I expected so i checked the sub maps and It seems I am right. Is there anyway to ensu

You can install a plugin called header and footer it allows you to just paste it in without html. It is for all things that go into your website header or body.

How long time ago you submitted?
The URLs are much lower in the Sitemap or as indexed URLs?

If this is a new site submitting to Google, it could take some time. Did you fetch the homepage and chosen 'Indexing requested for URL and linked pages'? This usually help index faster not inly fetched page, but all the URLs which are on the page.

My sitemap is not working as it should.can someone help?

My site is about a year old now and after having written quite a bit of content, I still don't rank highly in the SERPs for my target KW's. As far as content quality is concern

Hi, I must warn you first I am still fairly new to this and don't actually have any pages or reviews on page 1 so my advice may be complete rubbish. but after 2 months of my new site I have a rook of pages on page 2 that are edging up slowly....

But I took a look at a couple of your pages.

Is There Such A Thing As A Blade That Doesn’t Require Sharpening?

Chef Choice Trizor XV Model 15

The first post looked quite decent, and you also ranked page 1 for that...but with a different post? sorry can't explain that.

but the Review post what struck me was how light it was!

What is it about 500 words?

Even with a really low qsr (9) its still going to be hard as close key words have a BIG qsr and google is clever now. its not just the exact Keyword competition. (which is why a different post of yours ranks pg1 for a different kw)

Your review to me just seems light on content. Its reads as if you have just copied a load of facts. Not formulated an opinion based on experience.

My reviews run to 2500+ words, maybe too much but they are high value items and people want to know before they buy.

I would talk more about the experienced based effectiveness and how the sharpener operates in the real world. Don't post a link to amazon reviews, read them all and come to an opinion you can articulate to the user as your own.

Hope this makes sense

Not trying to bring you down but trying to help.

As I said I don't consider myself and expert.

Thanks for your opinion however I respectfully disagree with what you say above. If you would have read my review, you would have noted that I write based on experience, and each of those pros and cons explain why I felt that way. I do agree with you that the content is light for this particular review, and that's something I should go in and improve on. It's interesting to note that my competitor ranks #1 for that KW with only 600 words.

Hi Irvan,

Interesting topic you are on. Could you please share your website with me?

Also, I've written an article on how to rank on top positions of Google titled "Google will kick your ranking to the top if you have these 9 principles".

https://barenakedmarketing.com/top-ranking-on-google

I hope this will help.

In the article itself, I've also talked about the optimal word count for each post. I've shared that there is no optimal word count, but it actually depends on the niche that you are in. In my opinion, your top competitors are your benchmark.

It is better to write a 600 words post which provides high quality value then to write 3,000 words post which speaks gibberish.

Hope this helps, and I'll be glad to review your site.

Just in case you are wondering about my credibility.

Most of my articles on barenakedscam.com ranks on top positions on Google.

Cheers!
Jack

Thanks Jack,

I'll have a look at your article.

In an attempt to not spam, I ask that you view my website from my profile page. There is a link directly on there. Let me know if you have any difficulty. Thanks so much for your help!

Hey Irvan,

Tried to view your profile to get your site but I couldn't find it. I tried to scroll down but it stops at the post section.

I'll send you a PM. Cheers!

Recently I've been taking the time to see how all of my content (pages and blog posts) has been ranking in Google. There are at least a couple pages/posts that have no rank at

Even with the new keywords, I wouldn't change the slug. Pages rank for keywords that aren't in their URL all the time. It's a signal to the search engines, but it's not a requirement for ranking. IMO the benefit of doing this, doesn't outweigh the cost.

That being said, if you do change a slug you will get a 404 error. You can prevent this by getting a redirection plugin. You'll be able to enter in your old and new URLs and if someone goes to the old one they'll be redirected to the new one. I don't have one that I can recommend, but this page has a list of 7 possible ones. You can also just search for 'wordpress redirect plugin'.

https://www.elegantthemes.com/blog/resources/turn-around-the-7-best-redirect-plugins-for-wordpress

How certain are you that what is in your slug does not affect SEO? From what I have read, it certainly does.

Also, how can I identify 404 and other website errors? Is there a program/tool that is recommended? I have downloaded xenu sleuth recently, but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

Lastly, why would I want to correct 404's? what if I have no external links pointing to that post (i.e. no Facebook shares etc.), why should I redirect?

Thanks, Eve.

OK I didn't say it had absolutely no effect on SEO. It does. But it's just one piece of a very big pie, and after people have keyword stuffed the heck out of their urls it now has a much lower effect than it used to. I'm not saying don't create new pages for your new keywords. I'm just saying don't necessarily get rid of the pages you already have.

As to your last point, it's been indexed by Google right? So Google already knows about it. Google is in the business of giving people valid search engine rankings. If your site is removing pages you're telling Google that any page they rank for you may not be valid in the future. Again, is it the end all and be all? No, but unless there's a good reason to take down a page, I wouldn't. And if you do, then the redirect tells Google, I didn't get rid of that content I just moved it to a new location.

As for your middle comment I use a free version of Screaming Frog, but all this does is find if any of the pages it can find are linking to other pages that have 404 errors. If none of your pages link to the pages you remove, it won't find them.

A 404 error means the page wasn't found. So every url that doesn't point to a valid page on your site will return 404. There are literally an infinite number of pages that will return this error. The point isn't to never return a 404 error, although you may look into a 404 page customizer plugin for when this happens. The point is not to have pages that are already indexed disappear and return a 404 error.

Thanks for the detailed write-up. This does a great job of answering my question. I am glad I didn't go crazy and change the slugs for many of my other posts/pages......so far its only one.

I'll need to redirect that page to the right one using a plugin and that should be that.

Also, I noticed when I changed my slug for that one page, I did not have to correct anything on WordPress where this page was linked elsewhere. It auto corrected and the internal links were working fine. I'll have to look for a tool that can identify 404 errors.....I know webmaster does this.

Well you can always change the slug back and then you don't have to do anything with the plugin, but either way. Yeah a lot of the internal Wordpress stuff runs on the post id, not the slug, so when you change the slug it's all the same to Wordpress.

Glad I could help.

Hmmm so something really strange is happening....

When I went to check if my new slug is indexed, I find that it isn't (which would make sense since its only been about a week). But I see the old page with the old url showing up and when I click that page, it automatically redirects to the new one with the changed slug.

Seems to me like I dont have anything I need to do. What do you think?

Huh... You learn something new every day. I did some digging and found all of one reference to this feature. I couldn't even find when it had been added or where it is in the code. However, the reference said that yes, you should be good. So, I guess you should be fine.

So what do you think my plan of attack should be for the other post/page? Change the slug and hope the same happens or avoid altogether?

No. I mean it's nice that WP did the redirect for you, but I'd still just leave it. Like I said, just create new content on new pages with the slugs of your new keywords.
