We Need Google and Google Needs Us

We are in the game, so we need to make the most of the opportunities that are available to us. Some folks are slightly suspicious of Google’s data collection it has been happening for a while and it is pervasive.

The key is how we can work this to our benefit.

As marketers we need to be up with the play, don’t be fearful but rather look to ways that we can create a positive relationship with the tech giant.

I hear many saying, " ah I was looking at this site or that product and low and behold everywhere I go all I see are related ads and promotions."

Scary stuff.

Well not really, one of Google’s income streams is derived from advertising. They are not stalking you just showing you what they think that you want to see from the profile they are building on you. Such a good friend it is your user experience that they are concerned about and like all good friends they only want the best for you.

This is quite cool, we go online we will see add’s, many of the services online are free.

As we all know there is no such thing as a free ride, in today’s world someone pays that is how it works.

But wait!

You can control the adds that you see, you can set some parameters in relationship to the advertisements that you are bombarded with. From our perspectives that can be a game changer and something that we can use to benefit our respective businesses.

Our advertising profile is created from the searches we make, the sites we visit, the videos we watch, across all the devices that we use to engage online. Google uses this information to guess our age gender and interests from here they will show us ads that are relevant to us.

We can take control of the ads that we see, it can have benefits if we are in a certain niche why not take some control. And see something relative.

Folks are signed in by default of using Google’s products and services, many are totally unaware, if you are into marketing then take some control.

Visit your advertising profile

Set it up so that it is beneficial to you and you see the most relevant ads in relationship to your online activities.

I have gone through this process and although not full proof it has provided a better more refined ad experience which is actually providing some value, for me mainly from a research point of view, it could be something different for you. you go online you will see ads.

Hi, Debbie, there is so much out there to angst about when it comes to conducting business online, if we step back then we can usually see and find ways to create some positive out comes. I like how you have rolled those words together, great slogan.

Sure, a company that makes billions of dollars needs us. Yeah... The internet needs us more than Google.

Hi, Hope just a play on words kind of like the chicken and the egg I guess. in our engagement online it is good to be in the driver's seat, by taking control of what we see we can use it to our advantage.

Trust Google but verify Alex with the ad reduction actions!

So true Mike, not so sure I would go that far as to say trust Google they are in business to make money, but if we are creative we can gain the sense that we are asserting some control over our user experience.

It is give and take. We just have to keep doing our part.

Great post Alex and I haven't done much with Google at this point, however I know that I will.

Good to have that confidence Theodore, they can be a very helpful resource, and I am sure that we all will have a lot to do with Google.

Thanks Alex, too bad Google hasn't found a way to filter the ads when you have actually bought something. I bought the other day a trampoline for the day care, ever since I have been hunted by trampolines through Google. But I have already bought one, and I really do not need 2 of those.

Classic they indeed try very hard, to present those offers. Perhaps you could try going to ad's personalization, topics that you don't like and create a new topic.
