Next Time That You Are Stalked Online, just

Do you ever get that feeling that you are being stalked online, just everywhere that you go some adds are tagging along for the ride. Just in case you didn't see them the first time the second, third or fourth time.

It can be annoying, just had the experience of being stalked over the last two weeks.

The trouble is that I really enjoyed the marketer's promotion, especially from the point of "how you do that ", really professional presentations, it did, however, wear a little thin.

But alas I couldn't shake him or give him the slip, you see Google has built up an advertising profile on little old me and because they care about my needs they just show me what they think that I may be interested in, such a great friend.

The scary thing is that they may be doing that with my search results as well so what you see and what I see for a particular search term may be different, did I just say that now that would be interesting indeed.

The only way to shake the determined affiliate was to sign up for the webinar, you will probably guess the storyline. But it did the trick.................. now on to view the next bunch.

The thing is that it is an inescapable fact of the internet and it happens by default. We can get upset about it or like all good marketers, we can use it to our advantage.

Just a couple of solutions

  • follow the affiliate or product or service provider to home base, they may offer an affiliate program, grab a link and you are in business they are doing some advertising to raise their profile, so jump on their coat tails, you are good to go. Just a thought, just turning the tables.
  • use the " how you do that" mindset, work out how they are doing their advertising you don't have to copy, in the online world there is a term called modeling. By observation, we can create a pattern or model of a successful presentation. By giving it our spin we can create some results for our own activities.

I think the term goes in order to create something we need to;

Deconstruct in order to reconstruct.

We are all stalked online by default, just by engaging online, it is the way it is and it isn't going to change anytime soon, folks and companies are just making way too much money from advertising revenue.

We can, however, take a step back and make things work for us, from a marketing point of view.

This post was a little reflection that I had and in no way do I want to make light of what is becoming a problem for some folks online, where others do in fact stalk folks for ulterior motives that are not too pleasant for the person being followed.

Thanks for reading hope it gets you thinking.

Alex.

Excellent way of thinking Alexander! I like your idea of checking out what others are doing to learn more ways of doing things. Although I do agree, those pesky ads can get annoying after awhile especially seeing the same exact one a few times in a row.

Thanks for sharing these awesome ideas with us!
Best wishes :) ~Sherry

Yep, you're right, Alexander...they're watching us, and studying our habits. It even extends to your phone. Big brother! :)

Yes, it did make me think. Interesting way to turn lemons into lemonade. We have to look at everything online as a business and see how it can benefit us. Thanks for sharing your perspective. Debbie

I now see why some members do not list their websites, especially when you see some of the questions asked. Thanks for sharing.Good article.

The world would have been happier without stalkers. Good article. Thanks.

Thanks Alex great post. I don't think I'm being stalked, but you never know. I do see your point that you can watch what others are doing and turn it to your advantage. Thanks for sharing.

I love your idea of turning a perceived negative into a positive. Don't reinvent the wheel, take a wheel and use it as a cog in your own business! A bit of 'sideways' thinking, many thanks, Sue :)

I've never been stalked - on or off line. Can't imagine where I'm going wrong!

Seriously, it's good that you have identified the problem and, more importantly, a couple of solutions.

Thanks for sharing.

I like your way of thinking outside the box Alexander. I get stalked by Ebay all the time and I believe they do have an affiliate program.

Hi, Marion, I am the same with Ali Express they have an affiliate program as well, it can be a matter of finding those extra hours in the day to get things done and to create some more opportunities.

Or just block cookies right?

Hi, Cass, it can be done and it pays at times to delete cookies, Just looking at how Google targets folks with online advertising it happens every time we venture online. Many of those ads are related to our fields of interest.
