I really am questioning my ability to buy multiple websites, but I do think I need to expand my niche to at least add sewing (in general), and perhaps embroidery and/or fabric,

This article will help you Esther...

It depends on how you have set up the original website, if able to you could add sections for each category and make the site more of an authority. You can also start new ones but as they all go together I think the combined effort will rank well if on one website.

So how do I do that/ I'm not sure.

so far I'm doing a variety of tabs and I just add categories. Still working on it but I figure if I ever want to create a new website/domain it's easy enough to transfer the content over.

Work through the training, it will show you about creating categories when posting. Its these categories that will define where the content goes and you can use the menus to show folks where to go.

Well if it's in the same niche why would you need anther website just expand it in your existing site.

It seems I have an extremely limited group interested in this. Yes, many tall people have fitting problems, but they lack sewing skills and have no interest in learning them.

Can you use that tight niche and go broader in a different direction? Rather than sewing machines and fabrics, I think you'd find a larger audience by becoming a resource for tall people to find things, whether ready made clothing, larger sized shoes, etc. There must be places to buy all those items online, hopefully many have affiliate programs, and you'll have a much greater chance for success.

Interesting. Thank you for the suggestion. I'll research it. At this point I'm a bit desperate. AND discouraged. Add to that the fact my "favorite" sister died last Thursday and I've been a bit "zombified" the last few days. I should be fine a day or so.

I'm so very sorry to hear about your sister. It will take longer than a day to get over that. Be nice to yourself, take some time to process everything, then make decisions about your site later. You aren't thinking as clearly as possible right now.

Thank you for your kind reply. You, of course, are correct, my thinking is not that clear at the moment. I'll get back with it probably later this week.

You don't need to start a whole new site Esther and I did send you an article in another thread where you asked this question. Here it is again if you didn't get it.

Thanks for the information. Very good. However, when i say small niche, i mean SMALL. I can put in sewing and I'll got lots of ideas, but to get key words for the sewing for tall girls, Ihave to put in something like "clothing for tall girls" or I get back there are NO keywords given. interesting to say the least.

Expanding your niche sounds like it might be a good idea at this point.
Esther, we had the opposite problem and made our niche way too big, so we had to scrap it and start again with a new idea.
We will come back to it eventually but know how to narrow it down now.
Do what you feel is right within your heart and gut. Us women are pretty good at that;)
The thing we love hearing is that you are not giving up, just modifying the plan. We applaud you!

Hi Esther!
Only you can decide, but if you feel it would be beneficial to your site and would give you the opportunity to create more content then that may be a good decision.
Best of luck!
KyleAnn

To my knowledge, self-made clothes and building sewing skills are two good niches.

Hey Esther,

Sounds to me though you've given this a lot of thought... and, I do believe you are right.

To me, focusing on "sewing for tall people" sounds more like a category rather than a niche.

If you have not seen the following 2 really great training media (tutorial and video) yet, they both offer great tips on selecting a niche. Hope you find this helpful.

Okay, the trainings were very helpful. Thank you very much. Now another question. If I enlarge my niche to include "sewing and embroidery, and or fabrics, etc.; do I need to start all over with a new web site, or how do I enlarge the one I have.
Thank you for your help.
Esther

Personally, I would select sewing or embroider. You could easily talk about fabric when discussing sewing.

As to whether you start all over again or enlarge the one you have now is entirely your own decision to make, Esther. I would never want to impose on you by telling you what to do, rather only make suggestions.

I share your pain. Finding relevant keywords in my niche is an issue too.

So what do you do?

I'm exploring creating an outline about what I want to write about. I create possible categories then try to find keywords in Jaaxy. Its kind of a backward approach but it seems to be working (so far anyway). You don't always have to start with the title. Sometimes its easier to develop the TOPICS. Write those then maybe they will suggest a TITLE. Then look for the keywords that way. Just an idea since I'm only experimenting with this method so far.

Keep going and if possible keep me informed of your success as well. Thanks for your input.

When I look up "key words" in my niche most of them are under 100 GSR, So, should I just "go for it" and use what I have?

Hey Esther,

Grace (aka littlemama) stated a few days ago that she only ever uses keywords with QSR of 50 or less... and Grace qualified to go to Las Vegas this year. :-))

Hope you find this helpful.

Google the keyword. See what kind of results are coming up. Do you see other blogs? If you do, how long and detailed are the articles? Can you write something better?

Google is good at letting the cream rise to the top. So if your article is awesome (which is easy because of he training you get here) and you will rank easy.

Hi, I think the emphasis on keywords as a newbie can get you a bit overwhelmed, so if you have a title that you really think you know about and want to share, then you should go for it as the main purpose is to create things that you’re passionate about! But yes if it is under a hundred it will definitely help as this means less competition. :) some things are hit and run I’ve had titles that I’ve strictly adhered to ‘keywords’ on and titles where I haven’t even thought about them at all, and funnily enough the latest one is where I didn’t even think of keyword usage got indexed the very next day. :)

Every niche has different opportunities.
For SEO purposes Jay the WA trainer recommends choosing keywords that have a AVE search of 100 and a QSR (competition) of under 100.
I have a niche site where lots of keywords are closer to 50 search and 50 competition.
Please understand that learning is a process and your 1st website most likely will not be your last.
If you really like the topic then create a website based on that topic simply to get the skills and experience you need.
Then when you have more skills you can create website #2 to make more $$.
Please remember that every step forward is moving you closer to success. Cheers and good luck.

My niche is sewing for tall girls. there are very few keywords with much SEO. However, I get interest from mothers with tall children. What I get when I check google are more questions than answers. Sewing doesn't seem to be of too much interest. i find that interesting in itself.

You sound like you are a perfect match for your target audience. At least that is a great start.
Reach out to a member called DShensky you can find her by searching on the black task bar listed above. She is in the quilting niche. You two can bounce ideas off each other. Something it's enough just knowing there is a 2nd person out there doing something kind of similar and making a go of it.
You don't need much traffic if your audience is a buying traffic. For example you could do product reviews on Sowing machines and get a commission. Keep at it. You will find a way to make it work. Cheers and good luck.

Please make a manual analysis first by googling the keywords yourself. DomW wrote a great article about manual analysis here on WA.

I've been to many of the suggested photo site - - there is very little on sewing, much less sewing for tall people. I've been to site content and find NO place that has image

Hi Esther, Just another suggestion when you are asking
questions add enough information so folks get the idea of what you are asking about,
As an example

Where do I find images in site content?

as oposed to

Where do I find things?

If we ask the right question in relationship to our query we get a lot better answers.

Just a thought that may help you.

It does, thank you.

Hi Esther, images can be an issue, have a look at the image it may help you.

once you have chosen the image, just edit it by clicking on the little squares in the white surrounds hold the mouse and drag it to shape and size.

Place the cursor where you want to place the image in your content and then click the blue save and insert button.

Should be good to go.

So if you want to search for images on an image site, after the extension, say for example images.com just add as follows.

.com/search/sewing/......... and then push enter it should bring up images related to that search query.

Hope that this helps.

I am not sure, but if you have a cell phone, you can take your own photos and then you don't have to worry about it. Or have someone take photos of you sewing or whatever you need for photos.

Best wishes,
Karin :)

Thanks for the info.
