why when you working on sub domains the platform is slow ?
I don't think it is related. I believe all the sites run on the same servers. Can it be the internet connection?
It depends on several factors:
His brandwidth
WA website's server's brandwidth
What plugins are being used? (they can slow down too)
It could be a DNS issue.
Best is he contacts Site Support to see if the problem is on the Server's side of WA, then tick off one by one to see where it could come from.
My 2 cents to it.

You should contact WA SiteSupport, they're very good and answer quickly.
Usually, you can setup a subdomain using the Cpanel with other web hosts, but I can't find one in WA, probably they want to keep their platform beginner friendly and simple.
