I am trying to understand how to build my website. I do not want to get in trouble with Google.

Hey Emily,

Write content for your website visitors and Google will love you. If you don't like a web page loaded with all sorts of links, than don't do that... or at least make those links open in a new window.

Linking to your own content is recommended. So if you have related content you could use a text link to that content in your new post.

If you are wondering about affiliate links... I was taught a loooong time ago to not use anymore than 3 affiliate links per 1000 words. And, make sure the first affiliate link is below the fold. Hope this helps you.

Thanks for sharing the above the fold info, I hadn't heard that. I don't think any of my posts do have that but might be wise to just go and check.

Hi,

As Mentioned below, just following the training here at WA and you will not have to worry about Google at all. WA has got it covered.

If you follow the training here. You will NEVER have to worry with Google.

But what question did you have?

Please just follow and understand the fundamentals steps of WA from the beginning.

I am finding it hard to get to 1000 words on every post I publish. I need some positive words and helpful information. Thank you:)

The hardest thing for me to keep in mind is that I am actually competing with other post to get my page ranked. I want my post on the first page of the google results for the keyword I am writing about. And the fact is that I am in direct competition with the post already there.

One way for me to compete is by making sure I'm not re-inventing the wheel. In other words I want to do as close to the same thing as the people who got their post to page one.

One way for me to do that is to search my keyword in google prior to writing. Every niche and it seems that every keyword is different when it comes to length of post. We can talk about we should write this number of words and that number of words, but that's just abstract numbers until we know what we are competing against.

Generally speaking, if all the post on page 1 are 2500 words, my post with 1000 words will not see the light of day.

hey that's an interesting way at looking at it. I really should check my competition more in this case I think.

I do realize that a lot of people that are having high ranks, are usually the ones with only 300 words or so of content, which is funny. This might however mean that these articles/websites aren't even trying to do SEO at all, but are just lucky enough to have enough authority to rank and some content for it.

Hmm interesting..

Most of my posts are under 1000 words but they are not a million miles away. If you create good quality content and you write as much as you can on the post, then there is not much more you can do. Better to get some content out then none at all. But it will get easier for us the more posts we do.

It's really very hard to stay 1000 words for every post seriously! But just try to be natural when writing content, I think it should be okay! :)

How do I change a post to a page?

The easiest way is to copy and paste the content from the post to a new page on your website. You won't want to do this if the post is already indexed by the search engines.

Hey Donna,

Here's a tutorial to help you do that: Hope this helps you.

Thank you sooooo much

Using the keyword training, it is advised that you shoot for 800-1000 words.

It is difficult to get something over 1000 words. I remember I used to have the same issue, but after blogging a lot over time, you will start to have a hard time keeping stuff UNDER 1000 words.

it is somethign that you get better at.

just remember that you are writing to people, so be descriptive and cover the entire topic. Be as helpful as possible.

A hack that you can use as well, is to break up your articles in subheadings BEFORE you start writing.

create an outline.

As an example:
"How to Make Coffee" (Title)
Find Good Coffee Grounds (Subeading)
Buy A coffee pot(Subeading)
Measure and Add Coffee and Water(Subeading)
Add Cream and Sugar(Subeading)

This is a bad example, lol, but i hope to illustrate the point.

By breaking it down like that... instead of looking at it as a 1000 word mountain...

make it 200 word bumps!

Now all you have to do is fill in 200 words in each section and you have thoroughly covered the subject.

Keep moving forward Emily, it gets easier with time.. believe me.

Hope this helps!

It is very normal to struggle with this in the beginning. But it gets easier and easier the more you write.

Just do your best and think about what you can write to really help people and give as many details, keep following the training, and then it will all become easier and easier.

All the best,
Mikael

Hi, again Emily!

I find it easy to get to 1,000 words or more when I am writing about something I am knowledgeable and passionate about.

Is your niche that way for you?

I love my niche, but am struggling to get to 1000 words in each post.

Every post you write will differ in length, as you want to write your content naturally and write, while others may be 2,000 words and that is what will naturally happen as you build out your website content.

I seed all my websites with 500 to 750-word posts and I rank them just fine. :)
I might add that anchor pages, reviews, and the likes should be longer, but informational posts on your blog are fine at the above numbers.

When signing up, it will ask for your company name? I do not have a company name. What should I do?

I just skip that step because it is not required step

Hey Emily,

If you have a company then you type in the name, if you do not have a company than you skip that step. Many businesses offering affiliate programs offer that field but you may notice it is not marked as a required field to be completed.

Hope this helps you.

Use your own name....

You can just write your name. That is what I have done - no need to make it more complicated than that:-)

Hi Emily!

If you are going to be running a home-based business, which is what this is, you should have a company name so you can take advantage of the tax deductions you may incur running the business.

When I started years ago, I created my first company, and I called it by my name and added enterprises. So, you could call your Emily (last name) dba Emily (last name) Enterprises.

Then just use your Emily (last name) Enterprises as your business name and for tax purposes and business cards, if needed, Emily (last name) dba Emily (last name) Enterprises.

This type of business entity is called a sole proprietorship. They are easy to own and operate.

If you would like more info on business entities, please PM me.

Howard,

Okay, I can write my company name on the forms, but I was wondering about where do I go to fill out forms for it to be illegal?

You don't need to fill out forms to create a company name at this level. Just establish a name and use it.

Doing so shows that you are serious about your business when applying to affiliate companies.

If you start selling a product then a business license may be required.

its only for the tax deductions you need a firm name. As an individual you also have to pay taxes and you can still do this all through your personal tax story too.

As long as you are not earning anything, you can easily skip over that part or fill in your personal full name as company name or tax name. That is at least correct.
