Hi Etienne,
All I can say about the theme is to keep it simple and clean. Make sure it's good for mobiles as well.
I'm not sure about the plugins because it will be what suits you when you get started - every site is different.
I haven't tried a recipe blog before but I'm sure it could be ok for making money. Maybe through reviews of the kit you use for the recipes - food mixers etc.
