Start your day with intention

How many times had we read articles about how all the most successful people jumped out of bed at 6am to run a few miles, practice some yoga drink a green smoothie, and get a big head start on their to-do list? Maybe it is the best way to start the day, But my friends, we all know it doesn't work for everyone, we're not all people of the morning.

For many of us, a child's voice or a dog or cat paw on our face is the signal that our day had begun. Nonetheless, it is possible to bring more intention into our morning and set a positive tone for the new day. By giving a little attention to our mental approach as we go about our waking routine can change the trajectory of our whole day. Here are a few ways for all of you entrepreneurs to begin your morning on a positive, nourishing note.

While your head is still on the pillow, you are awake, your day is now beginning and now your mind is starting to fill with all the things you got to do. You know in your heart, you need to get going but before you dragged yourself out of that comfortable bed take a moment to practice just a little loving kindness.

This very ancient meditation extends kindness to others and to yourself, while it may seem very simple it can truly improve how you feel at the start of your day. First, picture yourself as you are, lying in that comfortable bed, than repeat these very short sentences to yourself a couple of times:

(1) May I be safe

(2) May I be healthy

(3) May I be happy

(4) May I live with ease

If your attention is in demand from your family that you can not spend a few moments more in that comfortable bed than at the very least say these words to yourself. By being self compassionate, you become in a better position to give to others. If you can manage to stay between the sheets on that comfortable bed, for a few more minutes, extend the loving-kindness outward to others. Now imagine someone that you love and repeat the sentences again, replacing "I" with "she" or "he." Finally, hold a wider group of friends in your mind, and repeat the words again, replacing "I" with "they".

This my WA Conrad's is a shortened, simplified version of loving-kindness meditation that my spiritual Yogi taught me. However, it gets across the basic points of how to extend compassion to others and to yourself. By you taking a few moments to say these words will give your day a more positive intention than simply rolling out of that comfortable bed with a groan.

Great advice. I agree with you. I know for me, the way my day starts is often how the entire day goes, so I'm careful to start my days on a positive note.

I am not a morning person Earl. My workday doesn't often start before 10am. But then it starts in earnest.

Good morning Derek, I usually work until 3 or 4 a. M. So I to don't normally get up until 9: 30 a. M. However when I do a wake I begin to practice intention with gratitude. I find this improves my day in a very big way. May you have a wonderful Sunday my friend.

I awoke this morning at 5am, with sincere gratitude for my beautiful daughter still asleep beside me. I came down got a cup of coffee. Wrote my 3000 word article. And now I am truly grateful my writers block has ended.

I am grateful every morning for every new day I am granted. For every bit of love I can give and receive, for each moment of presence, and each small bit of happiness. I am grateful for the struggle that brings me the lessons and the strength and courage to overcome them. I am grateful for all the support I have.

My intention is to be grateful for every tiny moment of this crazy life. May I continue to do so for many more moments.

An excellent way to start the day Earl. I also practice gratitude morning and night. I find the more gratitude I have the more there is to be grateful for.
