Understanding How to Take a Break From Work

Has this happened to you? You get so locked in with the work you're doing, whether it be continuing your affiliate marketing training here at Wealthy Affiliate, or maybe it's keyword research you're doing for an upcoming blog, whatever it is, you get locked in to a great work flow, but now you don't know how to turn it off. Understanding how to take a break from work is extremely important so that you can avoid something nobody wants to experience: burnout.

I woke up this morning, played with my dogs a bit, and then after relaxing at my laptop I realized, "Holy crap I leave to Thailand in 2 days!" I haven't done any packing and I haven't even booked some of the excursions I want to take part in! And here I was planning on writing and publishing a new post to my site today. How did this even happen? It happened because I've been in such a good work flow lately after getting back from Australia a few weeks ago that this upcoming trip to Thailand managed to completely sneak up on me. Thankfully, I understand how important it is to know how to take a break from work.

I think I learned how to take a break from work at birth. Lol. Too many people think they need to just work and work and work and that is what will get them ahead. And yes, it's true, a great work ethic will lead you to success. But it needs to be quality work. And if you are at the point of burnout, guess what, you're not doing quality work.

The affiliate marketing training here at Wealthy Affiliate promotes breaks. Have you noticed as you're completing the course lessons that you'll get to a lesson and at the end it'll say "Now take a 10 day break, you deserve it." Ten days? I can't take a 10 day break? Sure you can.

This doesn't mean completely putting your website on the back burner (although there's nothing wrong with doing that every once in a while), it means simply slowing down and relaxing. Clear your mind. Relax your brain. And when you come back to your website after your break you come back with new eyes. You're ready to tackle the training. You're ready to produce quality content. You have a renewed energy and are ready for another strong push.

This is why understanding how to take a break from work is important. And as I realized that my Thailand trip is coming up, i know this short week-long break I'll be taking is well deserved and that I'll come back with a renewed sense of drive.

That post I was gonna write can wait.

Bangkok and Phuket are getting my full attention for the next week. I'm sure I'll have some down time here and there and I'll check in and maybe even write a blog or two about my R&R, but rest assured my brain is about to relax and relax well.

Have you been working your tail off? Don't be afraid to take a break.
It's good for you :)

It told us to take a break? holy cow, I didn't see that one

Thanks for the post

Clyde

Haha sometimes you're in such good flow you don't notice it :) Keep up the great work, Clyde. This training is awesome!

Have a wonderful timeout. You put so much work into your trainine and sharing which I deeply appreciate.

I've read a lot of digital nomads living in Chiang Mai. I am curious and wish I could visit there one of these days. I've been to Chiang Mai but that was a time Internet was not even a commonplace.

Very cool. I love traveling and I'm absolutely addicted to it. That's the main reason I joined up with WA so I could see if I could build a business that would ultimately come with me on my travels.

You also need to consider ergonomics Eric. I posted about stand up desks today!

Stand up desks huh.. wow. Your next stop will be the treadmill desk! lol. I'll have to check out your post tomorrow! Thanks, mike!

Yes I have put WA on the back burner at present. Unfortunatley not for R and R but to try and finish my day job.

Regards
Bob

Sometimes we have to step away for a bit, but as long as we remember why we got involved in the first place and remember our goals we set with it, we can come back with a renewed drive, right?

Don't stay away too long! We'll miss you, brother! Thanks for the comment.

I should be out of the woods by the end of the month. I'll be back and trying to catch up

Thanks

Bob

Yes, yes I have been working my tail off. Anyone that knows me can tell you that I work way too much. I've surpassed burnout but I keep going anyway. My only breaks are when I pack up and take off before I have a complete mental and physical break down. Unfortunately that's how I'm hardwired, work, work and more work.

However I'm trying to not to become entirely consumed with WA and trying to slow my roll.

PS, take me with you I can totally fit in your luggage. Pretty please, lol.

You're definitely a hard worker, Dawn. And you definitely get stuff done. That's how you're wired. Just remember it's ok to take a break now and again :)

You should see how little I take with me on these trips, lol. People see my tiny luggage and say "that's all you got?" I'm a guy though. I can pack in like 20 minutes and I'm done lol.

I try to get stuff done, not always successfully but I try.

This is true, you are a guy. Most guys travel lite, unless you're my best friend Jonathan who brings everything but the kitchen sink, lol.

We should plan an adventure together since we both love travel and recruit some friends to come with, lol.

Safe travels my friend.

Nice post

Thank you sir. I appreciate that!

Thank you Eric for this post!

Take a break to fuel up and get some new energy that´s important in order to stay sound healthy!

Wish you a relaxed time in Bangkok an Phuket - enjoy it!
:-)

Thank you so much. I really appreciate that. :)

Good advice, taking a break is the hardest thing, I hate the idea of not making every day count. Taking time to relax and enjoy should take higher priority as we forget why we work so hard in the first place. Like you say, productivity is more likely after a rest, I'll try harder to schedule work and play in good balance.

You said it. It's all about balance :)

Good for you!! Have fun

Oh I plan on it :)
