How to Market a Website - Finding the Best Fit

How to Market a Website? That's the million dollar question everyone wants to know. First of all, I absolutely love building my main website I created here with Wealthy Affiliate. I can see in a short amount of time how it's completely evolved and become something I'm very proud of and that is 100% because of the training and helpful community here at Wealthy Affiliate. So thank you.

Some of you may not know I have a second site that details my travels as well. I want to travel the world. And I'm fortunate enough to be able to travel a LOT lately, and I absolutely plan on sticking to that schedule. The problem is, when I take a break from my primary site during a vacation, when I come back all my focus is on getting back to it keeping it current and active.

I don't have the time to publish all these posts to the travel blog with pics and video of the sites I saw like I used to. Plus, didn't I pretty much share everything I did to Facebook and Instagram already while I was out and about? Eric, you don't have time to be active with these 2 sites simultaneously.

It's important to take inventory from time to time so as not to put too much on your plate early on. Especially in the early stages, it's not like you can just publish a post and wait for the overflow of traffic to come. You have to work for it with each and every post.

I realized i need to focus purely on one because marketing a website really does take time. You need to not only create content regularly, keeping it active and interacting with your readers, but you need to promote your posts, do some off-page SEO to keep posts out there and get them to the masses.

I realized some of the posts I wanted to publish for the travel site can easily go into my primary site. I don't have to split my time or focus, I can just build in one spot, and build thoroughly.

No matter how much success you have with all the incredible training we get here at Wealthy Affiliate, understand it is always a growing and dynamic process. Always be ready to grade yourself and see where you can do more. Don't put too much on your plate, but instead see where you can be more efficient.

Thanks Eric for this post. Some very good points!

Glad you enjoyed it :) Thank you!

I agree, I loved building my website I never thought I would be doing anything on line, especially having my own website!
I am proud of myself and am surprised that I really enjoy blogging.

Yes we have to work on each post for more than just writing it out. We have to promote it among other things for sure :)

I try to go back through and adjust and retarget to different keywords when I can.

It's always going to be a work in progress. When you find yourself not working to improve your site, you're doing something wrong!

Always working and always looking to improve is the key. We don't want to change too many things around like urls and permalinks of course, but always striving to be better with each new post is something that won't ever stop.

Let your sites grow organically. There's a lot of Flippa fever going round lately!

Thank you for sharing this advice it is very helpful.

Hi Eric, again thanks for this! You give such sensible, grounded advice, much appreciated, Sue :)

I am starting to think I am not aiming my site at the right people. I need to find my customer! On the upside some industry big hitters are liking and re tweeting my tweets! its a massive learning curve even for folks like Kyle I am sure.

Like any business, it's gonna take time, exactly like you said. You have to find that target customer. Create quality content and then reach out and find your audience. Takes time and patience and not giving up.

Mat
you need to know your target market and you really need to pin it down, when you just know around the market you can not pinpoint the client you want to serve. That means you can not sell as you do not know where the pain is. ( It is like selling a vitamin or a painkiller... vitamin I can buy next week or next month, but a painkiller I need right now )
I pm you a questionnaire to find your target market. It really pins it down.
cheers Sylvia

Thanks so much!

Eric,

Thanks mate. I love building the content even though sometimes it feels like a chore and it doesnt feel like I am creating quality content, just content! Its one of a few things I need to work on to really be "there"

It's an ongoing process. Thank you for sharing.

Yes it is. Always working and always learning. Thank you for the comment!

This post comes at a good time. Seems like we can get overwhelmed with our sites. I was just contemplating on whether I needed two sites or just stick with one. I think for right now, I will stick with one and introduce WA as I go through Affiliate Bootcamp

I really like affiliate bootcamp. Really opened my eyes to a lot and the affiliate program here at WA is a really good one.

well said brother its better to go slow BUT STEADY and dont get overwhelm take care there plenty to learn

Amen to that! Thank you!

You bring up some good points. Thank you

Thank you very much. I appreciate that! I'm glad you enjoyed this.
