Why Does Facebook Make It So Hard?

Yesterday, I ran into a big problem with Facebook. All of a sudden, the posts I'd shared from my blog just vanished! ALL of them! Apparently, they don't comply with the Community Standards or something like that. The thing is I'd been sharing my posts to Facebook for quite some time and just yesterday, out of the blue, they were removed without notice.

I spent the whole afternoon trying to look for a solution. I didn't find any info on WA, so I looked everywhere I could. I watched a lot of YouTube videos and read a good bunch of articles to no avail.

What Exactly Is the Problem?

To make a long story short, my domain was blocked for being considered as "abusive". Supposedly, someone reported me and Facebook not only blocked my domain but also removed all my posts.

Now, I can't redirect anyone to my site from Facebook. I can't share any blog posts either. If you try to share a post from my blog, you get an error message.

Another thing worth mentioning is my domain got blocked by Instagram and Whatsapp as well since they're owned by Facebook. It's very frustrating!!

I'm Not the Only One

Many Facebook users have complained about this and they all agree Facebook doesn't care. After all, we're not customers but the product. They might care if we were paying customers.

For starters, there's no way to talk to a human representative. There's no email, no chat feature, no phone number, NOTHING. All they say is you can check the forums or make a report that most likely will never go through. Many people claim to have made a report and weeks, even months go by and Facebook does nothing.

What's even worse, they don't tell you specifically what it is you violated. How can I get it fixed if I don't know the problem?

When you report something to Facebook, you get a message that says that they don't' check cases individually. What's the use of making a report then? I wish they were as fast to correct a mistake as they are when they block something on the platform. If someone reports you, they block you on the spot and there's no way to make an appeal...at least I didn't find it.

What Can I Do?

I have basically two options: using a shortened version of my link or creating another domain.

If I shorten my link, I run the risk of getting banned permanently for being considered as spam. It might work for some time, but who knows for how long?

At this point, creating another site is out of the question. If I were just starting out, I wouldn't mind, but it's not the case.

I already reported the situation to Facebook using their help center and also through Twitter, but I'm not too optimistic. Even if they unblocked my domain, my posts would not be reinstated. I would have to re-upload everything again.

Why Not Just Leave Facebook?

A couple of guys suggested this. Facebook is one of those things you either love or hate. There's no middle point. However, we can't just ignore Facebook. Remember their monopoly includes Whatsapp and Instagram. Just think about this: when you come across an interesting article online, where do you share it to? I'm pretty sure most of us would say Facebook.

As long as my domain is blocked, I will be limited to Twitter and Pinterest.

My traffic is still negligible, but regarding social media, most of it came from Facebook. I joined several travel groups and I participated actively in them not too long ago and I received a few likes and new followers. It was coming along nicely. I don't want to lose the little I've achieved so far.

What Now?

I don't know what to do. As I said, I'm not going to make another site at this point just to circumvent the Facebook block. But at the same time, I don't want to lose my page.

I have to consider my next step carefully.

Well, guys, that's it for today. Thanks for reading.

Enrique

Hi,
The same thing happened to me last week.
Several days I try to find a way to reach a human, but nothing helped yet. Looks like with COVID, support is reduced even more.
I tried some advice from here:
https://johnfowler.co/facebook-blocked-my-website/

Did you find a solution?
Mary

Hi, Mary,

Sorry to hear about your struggles.

It's technically impossible to reach someone from Facebook. I've tried reaching out using the Debugger, Facebook Support, Facebook Developers, Facebook forums, everything I could find, but nothing has worked. I've already lost track of how many times I've done it.

I remember reading that article you shared. I tried reaching an agent following the steps for Facebook Business, but the site looks totally different. I never found what he said. Many people complained they were not able to make anything out of it, either. It seems not all of us get the same options. That, or Facebook changed it altogether. It's so frustrating.

Let me know if you find any solution.

Thanks!

Well, I don't know what to tell you -- I also put links on FB regularly. If they remove all of them, then what? I hope you find a solution to your problem. Could you please keep us posted as to what happens. I'd like to know if and how you resolve it.

Hi, Fran,

I'm not too optimistic. I've come across many comments from frustrated users like me. They have reported the situation to Facebook countless times without hearing back from them.

I'll see what else I can do and keep you posted for sure.

Thanks.

Good Morning Enrique,

Do not give up hope yet.
A lot of people, myself included had posts taken away as they were spam.
Next day FB apologized and put them back, see screenshot.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

Hi, Taetske,

I think the process is different since it had to do with your personal profile not a fan page. I've sent as many messages as I could through Facebook and Twitter, but as many others have said, I doubt they even read them. We're not paying customers so they don't care. :'(

I see what you mean Enrique.
FB is still a mystery to me but I am happy I see likes on my posts as that is what Google seems to appreciate.
Stay safe and healthy.

greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

Hi, Taetske,

Every time I'm more confused lol. I know it's not the only traffic source we have, but it's very important nonetheless.

Thanks for trying to help. Best wishes.

Use a different email and make a new page. Just share your blog post not extra links as they will be in the post anyway.

Facebook has got worse over the last few years, they want all businesses to pay, so have restricted reach and interaction more and more.
I have automated posts going through my business page but rarely interact on there now, it is too big a time waster for very little return.

Hi, Linda,

That won't fix it. The problem is not my Facebook page but my site. In other words, my domain is blocked. Facebook won't let me share anything coming from my blog.

I only use Facebook to share my posts as you suggested. I'd been doing it for some months already, so I don't understand why they blocked me out of the blue.

They are a law unto themselves unfortunately.

So it seems.
