To be, or not to be

Hi, WAers,

It's been a long time since my last post. Just like most of you, I've been staying at home for several weeks. I've had a lot of time to think about many things.

When all of this chaos started, I wondered if I should change niches or not since mine is virtually dead due to the pandemic. After too much thinking, I decided to stick to it. I've been adding content regularly, but I must confess it's been hard since my topics have to reflect what's going on in the world and still apply to my niche. Not that it can't be done, but it was a game changer.

Not Totally Unexpected

Amazon suspended my account since I did not meet the 3-month target. I don't worry too much about it because I rarely promoted products there, but it's a little bit discouraging nonetheless.

What really got me was being dropped by one of my main affiliate networks. That indeed was a bummer. I won't reapply until I have more traffic which is what I've been struggling with.

These events were not unexpected since I knew they were coming. I know many niches have been hard hit and it will take a long time to recover so we have to adapt and look for alternative routes.

The Lesser of Two Evils

Have you ever settled for less? I have. I've had my good share of jobs that I hated. I dreaded going to the office, answering the phone, interacting with customers, and a lot of other things. I sucked it up and just hoped that things would change, but I never took action until a few months ago.

When I bumped into Internet marketing, I found it to be interesting. I was hesitant at first but decided to give it a try. I've learned and failed many times. If it was hard to drive traffic to my site before the pandemic, right now it's next to impossible.

I've thought of changing niches, but I didn't want to do so under these circumstances. I know some niches like video games and home fitness are exploding right now, but either I don't know anything about them or I'm not interested. I feel that choosing a currently popular niche just because the niche I love is dead is denying myself and going back to those times I had jobs I hated. I feel like I would have to choose between the lesser of two evils.

What Do I Want to Get at?

Good question. It took me a long time to find something I was passionate about. When I finally found it, it looks like it'll have to wait. I feel I've gone too far now to change direction, but at the same time, I know we have to adapt to new situations. I've never been good at that.

As I'm sitting in my bedroom, I'm thinking of possible niche ideas for another website. If I open another site, it has to be about something I love. But where is the line that divides our dreams and reality? Should we settle for less in hopes the situation will change?

Conclusion

Have you changed niches in the last few weeks? How did you decide what to write about? Did you just choose a popular niche because yours is not working? What matters most to you? I'd love to know.

Thanks for reading.

Enrique

Good afternoon Enrique,

I have just continued doing my own stuff.

Stay safe and healthy,

Taetske

Hi, Taetske,

It's been a long time!
Have you seen a dramatic change since all of this chaos started?

Good Morning Enrique,

As I do not care much about statistics, do not promote WA and neither write reviews, not much has changed. I keep writing for my websites abut things I find interesting and then publish it on Pinterest and FB.
My personal life has not changed much. I have been at home for 2 months and Michael does the once a week shopping.
Sorry, nothing really exciting to tell you.

Stay safe and healthy,

Taetske

Oh, no worries. Glad to hear you're doing okay.

Statistics...I've been looking at them and they're a pain in the neck. :(

Glad to hear from you. Stay safe and healthy as well.

Enrique

Hi Enrique,
I'm in a similar place and have started working on another project. Had nothing to do with the current world situation. Guess I got on the freeway heading the wrong way. No worries. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. It's been a hell of a learning experience and one that I'm happy to have had.

Greg

Hey, Greg,

Yeah, looks like it's happened to many of us. Glad to hear you've made the most out of it though.

Enrique, since Amazon butchered their commission structure, it's hardly worth bothering with anymore!

I know that you'll come up with something my friend!

Stay safe!

Jeff

Thanks, Jeff.
Stay safe.

You too, my friend!
