Anyone Interested in Exchanging Comments?

Hi, WAers,

I've just disapproved 5 comments I received today (out of 7). I've been trying to use SiteComments, but my results have been unsatisfactory. For starters, it's hard to find posts to comment on. The only ones I could find had to do with digital marketing, and they were all from the same author, like 15 in a row. Not lying. I can't skip comments forever, can I?

Not even changing my niche preferences helped. I think SiteComments should allow us to choose which categories we'd like to comment on and not just present us with random posts.

I don't like the Site Comments thread, so I bought a few credits for the first time. I used a few of them and requested some comments. In less than 5 minutes, I received all the comments I had requested, but as expected, they were all full of grammar mistakes. More than the mistakes, what really bothers me is that most people don't take the time to read the post and just leave a random comment.

I have two friends here with whom I exchange comments, but I need more. I need more people who are interested in exchanging quality comments on a regular basis. That means NO generic comments. They have to make sense and address the post specifically.

If you're like me and are tired of getting poor comments, send me a DM, and let's create a network of responsible commenters. Who's down?

Enrique

I always read the posts and I have not had a comment rejected.
What niche are you in?

Hi, Lisa,

My niche is in travel. I always get comments when I request them, but more often than not, I have to reject them. I try to fix them myself at times, but it's not always possible, not to mention it's double work.

People have been trying networks like this for many years and I am quite sure that Google dislikes them. Personally I wouldn't do them. Suggest you ask Kyle's opinion on doing them.

I don't see any difference between doing this and participating in either SiteComments or the Comments thread. The only difference is we're looking for dedicated commenters who are not just trying to game the system to receive credits.

If Person A reviews something on the site of Person B, and Person B reviews something on the site of Person A, you could arguably say that they are trying to game the search engines to get better listings.

See this article on the broad subject by Neil Patel:

I understand your point and have read similar articles in the past. In fact, I've also questioned myself regarding this practice.
As to Kyle, it's implied he approves of this since it's he who came up with this idea within WA.
Did you get penalized by Google because of this?

Hi Enrique -- I haven't been penalized but I haven't done much of this. My experience with the commenting feature here has been very much like yours, so I didn't use it after a couple of tries. In the past I did use PBNs but that was years ago and I stopped when I realized they might hurt my sites.

Kudos to you for being proactive in trying to find ways to get traffic to your sites. My sense is that the larger the circle of comment exchange, the more natural it might look. My personal style isn't very proactive in that regard.

BTW, I went to your site on Mexico and liked it. My husband and I lived in Jalisco, near Ajijic, for five years. We thought we might stay as expats, but did end up coming back to the US. One thing I noticed on your site is that you write well.

Hi, Rosana,

Oh, I see. How do you drive traffic to your site then? I don't see any other way to do it when starting out.

I've participated in writers' lifts now and then on Twitter. Does that count as a PBN? I'd hate to get penalized by Google because of this.

I've been trying to find ways to drive more traffic to my site. I've been luckier with Yahoo/Bing, but Google still remains a mystery to me lol.

Thank you very much for your comment. I've been to Ajijic, and I loved it. There seems to be a large community of expats there.

Thanks for your input. :)

I don't do as much to drive traffic as I could. My new sites still get very little traffic but some of my sites are over 10 years old, and they have a lot of things set up over the years, including organic searches in the search engines.

I don't know what writers' lifts are on Twitter.

Yes, lots of expats around Ajijic. The region is nicknamed "Gringolandia."

Oh, I see. My oldest site is barely one yeard old and the second one is four months old. That's why I stiil have to look for traffic.

Writers' lifts are intended to gain followers. Somebody starts one using a hashtag and then others follow you hoping you follow them back. Most people participating are bloggers or writers of some kind.

Lol I can tell. I saw so many English signs all over the place. I knew of San Miguel de Allende and Vallarta but this was something new to me.
