HelpDecrypt Malware
So last Monday I discovered that my computer had the Help_Decrypt Malware, It totally encrypted all my files and photos. I had to go buy a new laptop and have spent the last week trying to get back up and running. Beware of this malware, back up everything now! If I find a way to recover anything from the infected computer I'll post a part two for this blog.

I know this is a difficult situation, from experience. By the way a backup is also not everything. My backup external disc crashed and suddenly has no data. I did not have the original data on my pc. So maybe one should make two backups on different discs? Or have your data on the pc, and also on the external disk while checking the external disk still works.
I have bitdefender total security as my protector. I have never had a virus with this bitdefender package. They also are very up to date.
I have it quite cheap every year. Sometimes they have an action for a big discount. And when the subscription ends they send a very good discount offer. I do not get money from bitdefender (so not an affiliate or like that). It costs me 30 dollar for 3 computers a year.
I just say it can prevent those things from happening, and save you time.
So sorry to hear about your challenge! I sure hope you are able to recover things from your computer!
Sorry to hear that Steve. This sounds to be a really nasty infection. The only way to decrypt your files seems to be by paying. But, if you pay, you are paying the cyber criminals!
As you say having regular backups is always a good idea.

Yes it is a bad malware. Maybe the worst one ever. I lost every file and photo on my computer. Still working on recovery but doesn't look positive. I'm a big fan of cloud storage now. LOL.
