Can Some Please Help Me Speeding up My Mobile?

I'm at my wits end! I have tried getting my mobile speed in the green all weekend. I was hoping to get some articles written but this has consumed me the whole weekend and I'm still no farther than I was on Friday.

All my posts are in the red for mobile speed and I have tried just about all the plugins that I can find. I have done image optimization and I even bought the WP Rocket plugin that was supposed to do miracles but nothing still in the red.

I thought I had it figured out because when I used the AMP takeover feature it got everything in the green but then I checked my desktop pages and it made them look like my mobile pages stripping out certain things.

Can someone with extensive knowledge about mobile speed please help me get my mobile speed in the green?

I'm pretty sure my traffic is lacking and my posts are not ranking as good as they could because of this.

So please anyone who is knowledgeable in mobile speed optimizing please advise me what to do before I pull all my hair out. I would greatly appreciate any help.

Cory

Hi Cory,

I've encountered the same issues with mobile site speed. The best I've been able to get on posts that previously scored in the upper 90's is around 80.

I've also found that any post that contains a YouTube video will score anywhere from 30's to the 50's. However, there is no noticeable impact on actual performance of these pages when viewed on my mobile phone.

I also have some pages that are nothing more than a paragraph of text that I use for mouse-over definitions, and they score 78 on mobile.

So far, for me anyway, YouTube videos seem to have the most impact on mobile scores, but not in actuality.

I'm using GeneratePress and Elementor.

I'll let you know if I find anything else.

Michael

Thanks Michael!

Did you uninstall the AMP plugin? Didn’t you say it helped? I tried the one switch to turning on the beta in settings and now my desktop is all screwed up. Do you know how to fix this?
Michelle

Hi Michelle. To fix that problem turn off the AMP takeover and your desktop will go back to normal.

Thank you but then didn't your site speed slow way down again?
Michelle

Yeah it did. I since installed the plugin WP Rocket it helped bring them up a little. It’s a paid plugin though

Have you tried the velocity minify plugin as Jake suggested? I have not, but just curious if his solution had any impact?

it's not compatible with my WP Rocket plugin which is supposed to have sped my site up.

I see, I am also struggling a bit, but not red. But also most in the yellow. Also can't seem to get yellow in the green so also still looking for solutions.

Page speed insights isn't a very accurate way to test the actual mobile speed of your website, have tried other speed test sites such as uptrends and webpagetest?

If you could also try the fast velocity minify plugin

It certainly helped with my mobile speeds

Cheers

Jake

I'm using WP Rocket which is supposed to minify

FVM works fine with WP Rocket, just disable the minify options (HTML Java and CSS) in WP Rocket.

Also, disable the minify options of site speed if your hosting at WA

It's worth giving FVM a try, its the most powerful free optimize plugin if it doesn't help just delete it.

Also if you are hosting at WA you need to remember they also cache your website with site speed, and essentially WP Rocket is a cache plugin if you have both caching your website at the same time it will slow it down not speed it up. You need to choose one or the other.

Hi Cory, are you running Google Ads on your site ?

On one of them, I am.

I posted a question recently about my mobile site speeds plummeting even though I hadn't done anything with the site since my last 'speed' check. Down 20 points across the board. I was on EWWW and site support swapped me over, made no difference. My 'text' only pages were also down which made me think it wasn't anything to do with image compression etc.
Then I remembered that Google Adsense had started running ads during this period. There are some that believe that there is a direct correlation between the two. However, almost like a false positive, the 'speed' number itself is not indicative of an issue on mobiles.
I, probably like you, have tried half a dozen or more 'recommended' plugins, all to no avail. This is the latest article I read but there are loads more out there. We might get lucky.

Thanks, Twack I will give it a read.

If you have any success, down the line, let me know and I'll likewise do the same. Good luck.

Hi Cory,

I wish I could help....sorry.

I know what you mean about being st your wits end. I had one of those days yesterday. I hope today will be better. for both of us.

I hope one of our members can help you out. Good luck.

Is your theme mobile friendly?

Yep

That's one thing difficult to understand.

Kraken it is...will help compress and reduce it size of images thus increasing the page load time.

Ive been doing this too. One of my followers suggested it was the images that were slowing things down. So its a bit of a fiddle but you have to install Kraken. It means you have to move to a new beta server here, but support sorts all that out for you once you have have Kraken installed. The fiddle for me was doing a back up. The back up needs to be stored off the server so I had to drop box it, just in case anything went wrong. My transfer went fine and my speeds are now much better. Take a look at Kraken here and see what you think ?

I have transferred to the new servers and have done everything with Kraken that can be done.

Well thats interesting, got to say that despite my changing over to kraken, my mobile speeds are c rap too.. but my desktop speeds are great !

Yeah, my desktop speeds are excellent. I hope I don't have to spend a fortune paying someone to get my mobile speeds up, but they are becoming more and more important to Google as a ranking factor, which makes sense because mobile is becoming mainstream.

Yes, I read that too. there was a google update in July that seems to have had more of a negative effect on mobile speeds. I am really not sure what the solution is.... Im looking for insight right now.

If you learn anything more let me know. I'm about burnt out searching for the answer lol

will do, but your searching doesnt encourage me that I will be successful.... 😢 but two heads better than one... 😁
