My Twitter Account Was Hacked!
So, yes. It's exactly as I said. My Twitter account was hacked. I have a few different Twitter accounts. A few of them I never use. But, I receive notifications in my Social tab in my gmail account about many social media updates to Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc. I rarely even look at these notifications.
Today, something caught my eye and I decided to check it out. I opened the Twitter account in question to find that I'm following 158 accounts? Really? I haven't even tweeted in this account for over a year. Hmmm!
So I open the list of accounts I'm following only to see tons of political accounts and fractions off these groups! I'm not going to mention the political group because I don't want to play "political ping pong" here. That's so not the point. Let's just say that I would never dream of following these accounts.
So I went through the list and unfollowed all the accounts that I'd never follow. Then went and changed my password. I also changed the password of my other Twitter accounts just to be sure.
Luckily, it was just my personal account that got hacked. Lesson learned. Don't neglect your dormant accounts!
If you have any dormant accounts out there, you may want to check them out or delete them altogether if it's possible. I'm deleting this personal Twitter account if I can. I don't use it and I don't want any further issues.
Hackers are still trying to politically influence us. Stay safe out there in the digital world!

Wow that is crazy. Not sure why someone would want to hack your twitter account. But I guess that is people these days. Sorry to hear this and thank you for sharing.
Hi Melissa. Yes. I found it odd as well. Although considering all that's happened with Facebook recently, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Thanks for dropping by! Alanna
Thanks for sharing. Have you enabled two-factor authentication? Such as a text to phone feature.
Hi Pitofly. No. I haven't. Only because I really don't like giving out my phone number! Alanna
