How To Improve Bounce Rates

Ok, WA'ers! Here's the skinny on my progress over the month of February. My goals have been simple:

  • Write more content consistently - Yes and No
  • Lower my bounce rate - CHECK
  • Increase the amount of time visitors spend on my site - CHECK
  • Finish the Affiliate Bootcamp - CHECK

I'm including two screenshots of my Google Analytics bounce rate information. I'm very pleased with the results.

As you can see, my bounce rate is down to 68.22%. That's a 20.40% DECREASE from last month.

The time spent on my site per session has jumped 207.78%! Again, I'm very happy with that as well.

I still have a ways to go here, don't get me wrong. I'm not out of the woods yet. My site needs some TLC and I'll probably be changing up the theme this month so I can make it look like the vision I have in my head!

March Goals

  • Increase articles from 2 per week to 3 per a week
  • Change theme and fix design
  • Revise and update older articles
  • Finish the next Affiliate Bootcamp course
  • Increase traffic to my site

I've had a hard time writing 2 articles a week. I know that trying to write 3 per week will be a HUGE challenge for me. I managed to write more consistently but I did not hit my 2 articles a week challenge in the month of February because I was working at my other job.

I like to use Google Analytics to chart my progress because I can visually see changes in my stats and that helps to guide me along.

Keeping an eye on your bounce rates and time per session is important because it can help you figure out where you are going wrong. You can then make adjustments in your goals.

If I had any advice to give anyone on how to improve bounce rates, it would be to write quality content more consistently. Create a plan for that and try to stick to it as best you can. Make it a priority and you will see results.

You have demonstrated that delineating goals and having a plan are so important. If ambitions are vague then the actions toward those ambitions will be weak. Great job!

Hello WellYeah! Sometimes I think I have the brain of a gnat so I aim for short-term goals that will pay off in the long run. It's all very well to aim for something vague like "make money online." But if you don't have a plan put together it's really just a pipe dream, isn't it? My goal is to increase traffic and to have a more focused website. Once I get the traffic, the money will follow. IMHO!

I'm a believer-great success is just a bunch of little successes strung together. There's genius in your "gnat" ;)

Hi! I'm really pleased to see your results. If I can ask, how did you achieve this? I need to do the same...

I can honestly say that I increased traffic by focusing on good quality keywords and adding content twice a week. Google loves to see new content or revised content.

OK, thanks Alanna

Thanks, everyone!

Congratulations on the progress made, and the goals to pull you forward!

Nice decrease in bounce rate, Alanna!!!! ~Debbi

that is great news and I am sure as I can see your plan is working to get you to the top of success all the best Max

Sounds great! Any tips on increasing engagement time and bounce rate?

Hi Rmaisey. What has been working for me is consistently writing content. I know that may sound simplistic but it really does work. Also, your articles should be between 500-1000 words. That has also helped me. I'm up around 1000 words a post now. Try it for a few weeks and see if you notice a difference. Good luck! Alanna

Thank you Alanna! Thats a great help..

Anytime!

Well it is an improvement which is the way forward so whatever you are doing just keep doing it - I have been with out Anaylitcs since mid February but yesterday had some time and got it all working again with Yoast and saw my bounce rate is 42% so if you remember it was
80 then work and 70 the toast and 60 more work and 50 and now 40
So it all takes and work and you will get the same result as well so just keep on having fun but please do not get hung up with GA too much

Well done on your progress, that's impressive :)

Sounds like you're making some good progress there, Alanna. It pays to keep an eye on Google Analytics stats and bounce rates - something I have to do a bit more of! Keep up the good work. :)
