How to Get Traffic to Your Website For Free
Ok, folks. This has been playing on my mind a lot recently. In fact, it has become one of my obsessions. Learning how to get traffic to your website for free can be an arduous task but it's not impossible. Once you have a system in place, it's not hard at all.
All the information you need is right here in the training but for those who like to hear it from other sources, here goes.
Create a Strategy
What I mean by that is, know your strategy for finding keywords, creating content, SEO, publishing, and after publishing.
Create Procedures
Write/type your strategy for the above into short procedures and PRINT THEM OFF! This is important! If you print them off, you will always have a point of reference and you will have no excuses for forgetting a step.
Now for traffic. Again, decide which methods you are going to use for getting free traffic to your site.
Social Media is Your Friend
If you haven't done so already, set up accounts for at least most of the following social media platforms:
- Google+
- StumbleUpon
- Tumblr
Each time you create a post and publish it, run down your list of social media accounts and share your new post in them. Be sure to use your keywords wherever possible.
How to Get Traffic To Your Website For Free
I have created procedures for myself where I documented all the places I shared my posts. It's in a Google spreadsheet. That way, if I'm on the road and don't have my laptop, all I need to do is log into my gmail account and go to my Google Drive to share and update any posts I've recently created and update my spreadsheet.
My spreadsheet includes the following columns:
- Publishing Date
- Post Title
- Google+
- StumbleUpon
- Tumblr
Each time I publish a post and share it, I go to my spreadsheet and update the above columns. I put an x in the sharing site columns so I know I shared my content to that particular site. I always try to do the social sharing within one day of posting. And be consistent!
By extending your reach with your posts you will start to get a lot more traffic to your site. I've seen my traffic slowly increase as I've continued to make this a regular habit.
If you are someone who thinks this isn't necessary, I urge you to rethink your strategy. You can have the most beautiful site with the most awesome information on it, but if no one knows about it, you are writing for yourself. I don't care how great your keywords are.
The most important thing to take away from this post is to develop a strategy, document procedures around your strategy and use them everyday!
It's working for me so I know it will work for you!
All the best,
Alanna
UPDATE: For anyone interested in getting a copy of my spreadsheet, I've shared a blank one here on my Google Drive:

Seems like you have a plan Alanna (you have just got to have read my blog lol)
Onwards and Upwards.
Enjoy your Staurday.

Don't be daft lassie.
I didn't mean that.
I meant you must have read my recent blog on having an agenda and a schedule to work with hence my remark - seems like you have a plan Alanna.
You are getting on fine so keep it up ok.
Robert
Thanks, Robert! It's hard to stay focused today. It's such a beautiful day here in Ireland! But I must get this stuff done! I'll quit a little later and sit outside with a nice glass of wine. Hope all is well in Scotland!
And yes, I always enjoy reading your blogs! Alanna
Its dull and misty here in Edinburgh and more on the cards for tomorrow.
I spoke to my sister in Ireland this morning and she never mentioned the nice weather. Of course she's in the north so it could be dull and misty there to.
I'm off for a wee while to get some eats.
Maybe catch you tomorrow.
Robert
I'm further south, Robert. About an hour or so south of Dublin on the east coast. We had rain earlier but now it's lovely! Enjoy your day!
You're so right about the power of social media, but it is quite time consuming.... Is there any way to post to one or a couple of sites and they'll automatically 'share' to your other sites...? That would be great :)
Not that I have found yet, RudViolet. And I've been looking for something that's free. I agree. It can be very time consuming. I usually don't do the social media thing right away especially since it takes me most of a day to research, create, design and publish a post. So I usually do that the next morning. I like to get the social media thing done within 24 hours so I can catch any search result hits.
Thanks for the reply. If you do find out anything would you mind letting me know? It's driving me mad have to do things individually :D
Thanks Alanna, I have been looking for something like this to better manage my time and tasks! Cheers, Lisa
That's a really good way to keep track of your activities...I will do this when I get back to a proper computer! Thanks Alanna!
It really does help me keep things straight, Ultimateless. I just can't carry all that stuff around in my head anymore! ;)
