The Twisty Turns In Life

Just when I think I am "cooking with gas," life throws me a curveball. It has been a whirlwind of a week at my house, and I feel a little sluggish and behind.

My husband, Jeff, who is normally healthy and active, complained of feeling dizzy, easily winded, and sweating a lot. He thought it was flukey because it would come and go.

Finally, after 3 days of this, he began to take his blood pressure in each arm and recorded it and his pulse repeatedly when he was feeling dizzy, etc.

To our surprise, his pulse was registering in the low 40's which we knew was not normal for him. He decided we should go to the ER.

Once at the ER, we were in the same room with at least 50 others, many of which had Covid symptoms. Experience told us that it was not going to be a fun wait.

Jeff signed in and briefly explained what was going on. Within 5 minutes, they had him paged to a room where they took his vitals. Within 5-10 minutes, we were in a room, and they were doing an EKG on him.

The EKG was abnormal, and I could see the look on Jeff's face that he was beginning to get scared.

The nursing staff began quickly obtaining blood samples from him after numerous attempts to find a vein were finally successful. Then the waiting game began.

Apparently, something was going on with his heart, and the blood work was either going to deny or confirm their suspicions.

Finally, about 2 a.m., the ER doc decided to admit him after the cardiologist had a look at all the results.

He was going to get a pacemaker the following day. He was so worried.

Knowing he was being monitored and they considered him stable, I left to get some sleep at home.

Early the next morning, I left for the hospital before they took him into surgery. It was a long day as we waited many hours for the surgeon to have time for his surgery.

Jeff was frustrated because he was starving! You all know how it is when you can't eat.

Finally, the surgery happened, and actually, they didn't even call it surgery; rather, it was a "procedure."

Jeff stayed another night at the hospital and was scheduled to leave the following day, barring any issues to the contrary.

By 12:30 p.m., we left to go home. Whew, getting out of the hospital was such a relief. Jeff was exhausted as hospitals are no place to get any sleep!

By early evening, Jeff was complaining of feeling the same way as before the "procedure." He began taking his vitals and s#@t, his heart rate was dipping below 40!

After consulting with the cardiologist, we headed back to the hospital, where we both stayed awake all night, waiting for them to decide how to treat this problem.

The results were that the device (pacemaker) needed to have adjustments made from Medtronic. We waited for the technician to arrive to do this work for many hours.

What an exhausting ordeal!

Now today, he is doing fine, and we have caught up on sleep a little bit. We are still trying to wrap our heads around this flurry of activity, and we are so grateful for modern technology and the people who use it to better the lives of others.

So today, I am back to blogging and hoping to get back in the swing of it.

Has anyone else had experience with a pacemaker, and if so, how is it going?

Thanks for reading,

Erlene

It must have been agonizing enough to wait during that time while in the hospital. I'm glad to hear that Jeff is O.K.

I wish Jeff can recover soon from this come and go sickness. Best wishes to you and Jeff.

Wow Erlene!
That must have been quite a scare
Thank God , he is doing so much better
Keep us posted please on how he is getting on.

So pleased to hear your husband, Jeff, is ok. It is amazing what they can do these days. We are lucky to be living in these times.
All the best. Back to blogging.

Emarla, the twists and turns come as a test of our faith and to strengthen our character. Everyone's are different but when there are no challenges in life we have to wonder if our Maker trusts us any more to handle them. Sounds like He still trusts you and Jeff.🌞
