Liability Insurance Sky Rocket
Hi there Lovely WA family, hope all is doing well and keeping the faith during this time of Covid-19.
Since Thanksgiving, I haven't been able to respond to my emails and other business of WA, because I got a disturbing email and letter at the same time from my insurance company with an outrageous spike in my monthly premium.
I had to call them right away to find out what happen, I haven't been drinking much since Covid-19, never been in any kind of accident, and at my age it should lower, not higher. You know I was out of my mind.
Upon speaking with them I was told that my defense driving certificate expired, and that's the reason. It has been 3 years since I last took it, and they don't remind you, it's my business to remember.
Well, the young lady was nice enough to inform me they will give me an extension in time to take the course before they take the payment from my account. So I have the choice to take it on line.
Time is of essence for me, cause it's Friday, bowling day, didn't I took my frustration on the pins! Yea I did. It worked out for the best, cause we won 5 out of 7 games. Lol.
After the game, I rush home to start my driving defense class, it was a lot to read, and I wasn't allowed to skip ahead since I know most of the answers, they had a time frame to finish each levels. I read until my eyes burned, however, early in the AM hours Saturday I finally finish, hook the test and was relieved to see Congratulations you have passed.
I was exhausted, I went to sleep. Got up around ten Saturday morning, so much to do, my son close to completing my kitchen, awaiting for the cabinets to come, so I had to do some cleanings up, boy, again lots of work and my bones are not as young as before, the saying.....if you don't use it you lose it, that's my body.
So two full days WA was neglected, however, for a wordy cause. I went to bed early, tast and turn from my pains until, fell asleep. Here I am in the wee am hours of Sunday on my iPad, reading emails and comments, so I decided to do this quick post of my activity, and try to get some shut eyes, because I have a busy day few hours from now. God's willing. WA is the bom, who else would I talk to at this time of the night/morning/or evening?

Wow, Elizabeth. Driving over there is so much more complicated than the UK. When I took my test I had to drive 4 miles. Pass through a traffic light, reverse around a corner and make an emergency stop. That was it. No theory test or defense test.
That was 50 years ago and we do not need to take any retest etc.
Things are slightly different now. There is a theory test to take. But once you have a full UK license you are forgotten about. In fact some drivers forget to take their driving test and fail to get insurance.
Congratulations on passing the test.

Wow Dave, you got it so simple over there. Here in NY is test after test when it comes to NY DMV. I am glad I passed it, The increase was not in my budget.

Elizabeth, personally I would like to see a similar thing over here. The UK makes little effort to maintain standards so they slip.
Set a three year reminder on your phone.

Amen! Good stuff though! I’ve never actually taken a defensive driving course in Louisiana, maybe that’s why our rates are so high!

I don't know what company you have or what state you are in, but insurance rate increases are supposed to be approved by each states department of bank and insurance.
You're state had to have approved the company's rate increase.
I used to be a licensed insurance producer many year ago.
Hi Barbara, thanks for sharing, I am in NY and I do have that quote, but there is also things you can do to lower your policy, and defensive course is one of them, but it’s only for three years,
It can be done I. Class or online, NY DMV also offer that to reduce points, if you have it.

Yes, you can take defensive driving class. But the amount that saves you is pretty miniscule compared to what they rate increase is costing.
