4 Year Old Sayings

What have I been doing for the month of July so far? Well I would love to tell you. I have been entertained by an adorable 4-year old little girl. I had forgotten what it is like to have a 4-year old around all the time.

My granddaughter is 10 now so the activities I used to do with her I'm getting to repeat now. But I'm learning some new vocabulary in the process.

For instance "WHY"

This is a BIG word in her vocabulary. She uses this A LOT and I mean A LOT. Everything I do is followed by her asking why. If I open my computer she will ask what was I am doing but that was followed quickly by why are you not working at a work place like her mom.

"Why do we have to take a bath", :Why do we have to brush our teeth", Why do we have to eat at the table", "Why", "Why", "Why", "Why", "Why", "Why". You get the picture.

Another saying she likes is

"Can I Tell You Something"

The only thing with this is she doesn't wait for you to answer "yes" or "no" she just tells you anyways so it is really just a polite way of saying "I'm talking, so listen".

As we were walking to the store last night, every two seconds in was "Can I tell you something" followed immediately by what ever she had to say. Most of the time she didn't wait for me to answer with "Sure go ahead".

The newest phrase she has just started saying is

Are You Proud Of Me

She is learning to swim and to go under water plus so other activities recently so her new phrase is "Are you so proud of me". She loves to jump into the pool, which is a brand new activity to her. You can see her working up the courage on the side of the pool before she jumps in.

Today, when she was blowing bubbles she blew a Big, pretty bubble and exclaimed "Oh, look at that one, aren't you proud of me?" When I told you it looked so beautiful just like her, she just beamed like a ray of bright sunshine.

A Typical Day Now

It used to be that I would be up between 6:30-7:00am but my granddaughter didn't rise till almost 11am so I would have plenty of time to write. If for some strange reason she got up she knew how to care for herself pretty much so I was there mostly to supervise.

Life has now changed!! I still get up at the same time but the 4-year old gets up soon thereafter. I need to fix her breakfast, then we have a toothbrush race to see who can brush their teeth the best.

She plays with toys and I thought I could get some writing done but that lasts about 2 min. before the questions starts "what's ya doing", "why", "can I help?" If she weren't so cute I might be upset, so I push my work aside.

We end up going outside so I can watch her blow bubbles because I can't get her to understand that it's not okay to blow bubble inside.

At about 11am she has a mid-morning snack then back outside for more bubble blowing.

She will spend hours blowing bubbles. First, she will blow them then will run and try to catch them.

Noon we come in for lunch. Not sure what I'm going to do with her because we usually go swimming in the evening but someone vandalized the pool so it's closed so no swimming today. Maybe we will pack afternoon snack and walk to the park.

Daddy is off this morning which is why I'm able to blog this morning. He goes to work this afternoon.

Your title "NEVER STOP LEARNING" is right on! They may be legalizing pot, but I have always been able to get high through the act of fully engaging in learning some new knowledge or skill.

Roger

Hey Roger,
Thanks for stopping by and commenting!!

Well said my grandbabies ask all these questions! I think you may have more patience than I.
your friend Sandy

Hey Sandy,
Like I said before Patience and helpfulness are just something I do naturally. And I love doing that!!!

It's been a long time since my son was that age, but I understand how you feel. Observing children is a great occupation, especially if you love them.

Hey Mike,
How are you doing. Thanks for the great comments.

I'm at a crossroads. I'm getting visitors to my site, but not enough to monetize my site, so I'm looking around for my next step. Thanks for asking.

Yeah me too so I'm writing more context and reviewing the training!!!

Good going! Nobody said it was going to be easy, right? We're in for the duration, straight down the line, huh?

Enjoy. Our grandchildren are too 'grown'.we even have a great-granddaughter. But, we have no visitors, kids that would make it safe for us to go to the park, aquarium, and all over. We don't do these activities.anymore. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Thanks for the comments Janina! Daddy is home today so I can get some writing done.

They sure grow up fast. Great memories you are creating for them of your time together. Thanks for sharing this awesome, fun times post. Enjoy them as much as possible!

Suzanne

Hey Suzanne,
You are so right about them growing up quickly. It seems like just yesterday I was doing these things with my 10 year old so I feel blessed to get to repeat some of the activities with this one!!

Lovely blog Elaine, and when you are exhousted in the evening, and she seems to have energy for 3 left, you are looking at her back, for the place where they have put the Duracell in;)

That's why I like being Grandma, at the end of the day you get to say "here Daddy"she is all yours! I have already done my dues with my kids!!

very interesting Elaine.
I know exactly what you are dealing with.
At my age and being impatient I soon
get enough. Our grandson and his daughter
came quite often and stayed the entire
weekend. She is now 8 years old and
thinks she is 18. Fortunately he did not
interfere when I calmed her down. The way we grew
up was very different..
Children were to be seen, not heard. My Dad thought
2 years old children were grown up. So that meant
it was time for them to shut up and never, never, never
talk when adults were talking.
I do believe that you are very capable of handling
the situation.
Good Luck Elaine
James

Thanks, Elaine for sharing this cute story.
Changing the routines for a while can be very refreshing especially with such a sweet companion.
