So I’m having this problem on a Spanish website where all of my letters with accent marks (á, é, í, ó, ú, ñ) appear incorrectly.

i take it you have set your wordpress language to spanish
under settings you have et option of setting the language to espanol or other spanishes across the globe
phil
but it will be language font support...
how did you write the articles .. did you import them or write them within wordpress.

Hi Phil,

Some of the articles were written directly in Wordpress and some others were pasted inside from Google docs.

As for Wordpress itself, this is set in Spanish, but I have no problem with this. The only problem is with the posts on my site. And it's also worth mentioning that the titles of some posts display incorrectly as well... all of which were written directly inside Wordpress.

Do you have any thoughts as to what I should do to try to solve this problem?

do they display ok within your wordpress...if so could it be your browser not supporting the font....
it looks like it is translating the extended characters as their ascii...
if you look at the code for what you have written above then it is completely different...so looking at your wordpress html will show whether it is correct...
what is displayed when using ctrl+u
at “a ntilde os” is incorrectly displayed as “aAtilde;plusminus;os”

have you got a url that does this as it may be a declaration made within your head section that is not saying what to translate the html sent correctly....
what you are looking for is
<meta; charset="utf-8">
in the head section....this tells the browsers the html is sent to how to decode it...

Hi Phil,

Does this line of code have anything to do with this?

<meta charset="<?php bloginfo( 'charset' ); ?>">

I found this in my website header, but nothing exactly as you pasted in the previous comment.

looks like it is inheriting the charset from the bloginfo variable...
reading more about it all of the tables in your database need to have the correct coding for the language support....
unfortunately that is above what i am able to d oat the moment...but read about it in the thread from wmpl
https://wpml.org/forums/topic/accents-are-not-working-in-spanish-automatically-converted-to-strange-chars/
i hope you get it sorted...

Thank you for the advice and help Phil. I really appreciate it. I will look at the link you provided.

no worries... just frustrated i couldn't help you further....
i hope you manage to get to the bottom of it...

So I just met with tax professional at Jackson Hewitt and found that I owe roughly $16,000 in taxes from my $49,000 taxable income. This includes Federal, State and Local taxes

Kyle, I've done self-employment tax return several years for myself and my family members. I am in the US. Are you in Canada or in the US, I forgot?

Well, I was going to offer you my two cents, but read Kevin's response and have almost nothing to add...

I use TaxActOnline services.
If you work from your home office you can deduct part of your rent/mortgage, Insurance, Internet service, utilities, etc.

Also, if you are meeting with clients (or potential clients) and pay for food, you can deduct part of this expense also. You do have restaurants receipts from 2017, don't you?

I also remember you saying that you traveled to Chicago on business at the end of 2017 - your expense is deductible. ;)

You have to show all income that has a record (either paper or electronic). Occasional cash payments for certain gigs maybe paid in cash - such payments are not traceable.

I believe that you can significantly reduce your debt, especially if you use a program and file your tax yourself. You will have to pay penalty for not paying quarterly, but from the lower income, the penalties also should be lower.

Good luck to you,

~ Julia

I'm from the US. I am going to be deducting partial rent and utilities for my "home office" but its not going to make much of a difference.

Thanks for the comment though. The TaxOnAct service... is it expensive to use and is it something you can do on your own?

https://www.taxact.com $60 - Federal & $37 - State
Well, all your deductions make big difference. As single taxpayer with income $49K your tax bracket in 2017 was 25%. However, if you bring it down to $37,949 - you are at 15%.

Thanks Julia. I'm going to try to get it down into the lower tax bracket..

Kyle:

I have an LLC which is similar to a home based business, So I will offer my two cents. Just note that I am in no way a tax professional.

I live in California but in my experience yes an estimated quarterly tax is required for any self employment income from that quarter. It may require some income projection. Quite simply the government does not want to wait until the end of the tax year to receive your tax dollars.

I keep a spreadsheet of all income and all business expenses which should include any expense you have to run your business. This can include your Wealthy Affiliate membership, marketing costs, Domain name costs, office supplies, business cards etc. I also keep a file to stick all my expense receipts and income payments received for the year.

If you do any driving in relation to your business this can also be deducted per the current IRS mileage rate but you need to keep mileage records. You can also see if you can deduct a part of your home being used for business per IRS guidelines. I have found the IRS website helpful for determining allowable deductions for small businesses.

You then complete a schedule C to offset your quarterly income with the expenses you had for that quarter. Once you determine your net income you simply follow the Federal and State forms to determine the tax owed for that quarter and yes you do need to pay quarterly..

Then at the end of the year when you file your tax return, you now know your total income and expenses for the year and you can determine if a refund or additional tax is owed based on the taxes paid in previous quarters.

In regards to reporting all of your income, probably a good idea since the IRS can always request an audit.

I have also found online services such as Turbo Tax and H&R Block helpful in completing the proper tax forms online for less cost than seeing a live tax consultant. They also have live tax consultants available if you get stuck. Hope that helps and good luck.

It seems your tax pro should be able to give you some insight on what you can write off being self employed. I haven't paid taxes in years because my accountant helps me find all the deductions I can to be able to write off and reduce my liability. Just a thought.

Barry

I've heard self employed people say they wish they'd known much more about the deductions they could make looking back in hindsight so though I'm not full time yet I'd say anything and everything you can possibly charge to the business then go for it.

Let's see if a veteran can confirm this shortlist for starters:
1. internet provider fees
2. devices / laptop, computer screens, phones, tablets and all peripherals
3. hosting fees
4. memberships and trainings
5. all expenses like autoresponders, tools
6. office stuff

there has to be a lot of stuff associated with your business apart from commuting expenses lol

We probably could do with some training in all this - even the 'going full time' part

Ya, I'm in the process of trying to come up with every deduction known to man

Unfortunately yes it’s better to pay off income tax quarterly and also you should claim everything that you have made in the year. As for deductions your small business accountant should know all of that and what you can claim.

Aren't there any deductions you can take? I know you are supposed to be sending in quarterly payments but I was wondering about any deductions you can take? That does seem kinda high for the income.

Tried and true

Elaine

Yes that is including some deductions but I still have to add more in

I am still new to this so I am not sure how to answer but I really appreciate you asking this I was wondering all of this myself. Sorry I can't help but thank you for asking.

Oh boy! This happened to me, too, many, many years, ago when my interior design business went full-time. I had no idea how taxes were to be paid, and was too busy to think about it. Your lucky you found out now, at only $16,000!! And my "bookkeeper," never said, "Ah, hello! You need to be sending in quarterly payments!" My advice: 1. Find a good accountant, 2. Make quarterly oayments 3. Have 1 help you with 2...and more! :)

Are you doing any deductions? This seem really high based on the income

Yes probably not enough though. I'm going to go back through everything and try to come up with every deduction possible.

I’ve been doing my online business taxes for many many years and I use TurboTax and would highly recommend it. It completely walks you through every single step if you are self employed to make sure you get every cent back that you are owed. It also offers Audit Protection Incase you get audited. I get that every year just to protect myself.

Also, KevinCA is spot on.

Last thing on TT. If are self employed, TurboTax will calculate your quarterly payments to the IRS for you and even give you the payment schedule to send to the IRS.

DM me is you want to discuss in more detail.

Thanks, Curtis

I am not sure what happened, but ever since around late Fall 2016, my Google rankings have been delayed.

What I mean by this is that I don't get ranked in Google for aro

I'm facing the same issue as well. I have uploaded 2 posts 4 days ago and they haven't ranked yet. I should see them on page 1 or 2 by now since I'm using low competition keywords and good content compared to the other sites on page 1.
I'm not sure whats going on with Google recently but it's frustrating.

Is the problem just with new posts on the site?
I had some similar issues with huge websites, but on these websites have 50k+ different pages and it sometimes took many days for new products. That's way sometimes it's recommended to create prelaunch pages for important products on web shops to get ranked these pages before the product is available on a shop.

Did you try Fetch the page on GSC and submit the page for ranking? This usually takes just some minutes or even seconds.
Did you check Manual Action section on GSC?

Another problem is that maybe you not updating your site quite often and just robots visit your site less often or you have some limits on robots.txt file or something that stops robots to crawl your page more often. What is shown under Crawl -> Crawl Stats on GSC? Is there any activity?

Thanks for the reply.

Yes I do submit my posts for index on GSC. Right now the stats show that I have an average of 471 pages crawled per day in the last 90 days.

i post on this site probably 5 times per week so I am pretty active.

Idk what the problem could be.
