Hello everybody,
My name is Chris. I am maths teacher based in the United Kingdom trying to get to grips with the intricacies of web design and marketing. Although I am not too bad at programming (C++ programmer for 30 years), I know nothing about marketing. So here goes . . .

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)

Things are going very well thanks. I have a couple of niche ideas but I am not sure how to develop them yet. Any criticism would be welcome, negative or otherwise.

One is sci-fi books. I have a domain, sci-fi-books.org, that I purchased some years ago that my wife uses. It is a poor quality web site (my fault) but it has some very good content (my wife's fault - she is quite a good writer). I am also a sci-fi addict and thought this would be a good place to start. Unfortunately, my wife has lost interest in the site.

Another is electronic kits - one of my interests/hobbies. I could quite easily write about this subject. It is a market that can easily be specialised (e.g. amplifier kits, specific IC kits). There are lots of affiliate programs. It is a technical subject. It is an easily extendible niche that could expand into other directions (e.g. chips, tools, education).

Another niche idea is helping people to improve websites. This is a local idea. I have come across so many sites and business over the years that desperately need help. I tried setting up some of them on AWS (taking advantage of their free, first year subscription). I could do with some help on this. Most of them want a web site for free or little cost. There must be a strategy for making money from these sites.

Another project I have is flipping (I think that is the correct term) a domain. I used a domain that I registered some years ago for subcontracting purposes (lpsystems.co.uk). The .com domain is now being used by a successful Irish company that is trading in the UK. I was going to offer the domain to them but I have no idea what to charge them.

You might want to try letting them know you have the domain and see what they offer you for the domain. Say you have been holding it in your portfolio and before you sell it on the public market, you wanted to give them the opportunity to buy it.

As for all of your site, I would recommend your steer your focus to one...the one that interests you the most. ;)

Sound advice thanks, Kyle.

I particularly like the phrase: "holding it in your portfolio and before you sell it on the public market, you wanted to give them the opportunity to buy it". I shall try it.

Doesn't always work, but definitely an idea that will work sometimes. ;)

Hi Kyle,
Congratulations on a very impressive site. You are obviously excellent at marketing. I am sure I will learn a lot from you and WA.
I saw your profile but tell me . . . what was your first succesful niche web site?

We don't necessarily "market", rather we create a service that everyone truly benefits from and the focus is helping others out. That is the most natural and powerful form of marketing, helping people (and what we teach here at WA).

I have been involved in many niches over the years Chris, from dieting, from voIP, from hosting, from satellite TV, pharmacy, etc.

Through time you will likely be involved in many things, that is what is so awesome about this business. It allows you to go in any direction you that you like!

Hi Chris,

How are you doing? I noticed that you haven't finished your account setup at Wealthy Affiliate here. You can do so at this link: http://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/home/my_profile. Having a picture and description makes it easier for people to befriend you, just like any other social networks.

If you have any difficulties or questions, don't hesitate to ask us. I'm a premium member at WA and I can tell that this is something that will definitely change your life for the better.

Upload a picture, write a description of yourself and talk to others in the community to see how they are doing. If you need help setting up your profile, you can watch this video here: Remember to catch up on the training videos too when you're back here. Hope to see you around soon!

Hi Chris!

Welcome to Wealthy Affiliate! I'm Edward from MasterMyFinance. You signed up through my site so I thought I'll introduce myself. I created my website in mid 2015 and have been working on it using my spare time after work (I'm still holding a full time day job), and it's already showing a lot of promise. As long as you're committed to make this work, you'll succeed online.

To get started, you can upload a picture and write a short description of yourself here: http://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/home/my_profile. Treat it as a social website and make friends, because there are a lot of awesome people in this community!

You'll learn a lot here, but for now just focus on the Online Entrepreneur Certification training. Follow the training one step at a time and you'll have your own website up and running in no time.

Enjoy your stay in Wealthy Affiliate! Feel free to PM me or write on my profile if you have questions.

You've come to the right place to succeed online, what's left is just to learn, put in effort and make it work!

Hi Edward,
Thanks for the post.
I am a bit slow in getting started. I need a bit more spare time at the moment to get up to speed.
I was looking at your website in the search for finance related information and found it very impressive and professional. If you keep up that standard, I am sure you will succeed.

Hi Chris,
Glad you like it!
Don't worry about the speed, we are not racing against the clock here. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Just drop me questions if you need help!
Regards,
Edward
