We have all read countless articles and books about the myriad of reasons why people fail or succeed. This got me thinking about the single biggest reason for success or failure.

It doesn't have to be about Affiliate Marketing, but about any endeavor we choose to devote our time to.

Let's fill in the blanks XXXX using the following words to make up two very important questions.

  • FAIL
  • SUCCEED

What is the biggest reason why people fail? What is the biggest reason why people succeed?

Please provide your answer to each of these questions and if you don't mind, write them down in the discussion section below.

The next thing I did was to ask each of these questions to the all knowing and mighty Google. Once you see these results, please compare them with your answers.

If they are the same or different comment on the reasons why you either agree or disagree with Google. So here goes.

What Is The Biggest Reason Why People Fail

Google's response originated from Canada's The Globe and Mail newspaper dated January 24, 2012

Aha! Doesn't this strike a sensitive chord for us Affiliate Marketers? The biggest reason why people fail is because they quit too easily and early.

Let's move on to the success question.

What Is The Biggest Reason Why People Succeed?

The answers that appeared were not as clear cut as the reason for failing. In fact, all the top answers addressed the fail question. Like, why most people do not succeed.

Google didn't give me the answer I was seeking. This puzzled me. Here is the screenshot:

Notice that no one reason was provided. Instead, most of the responses wither focused on why people fail or gave multiple reasons why people succeed.

After studying the responses within these Google responses here is what I discovered.

Most people who succeed are those who NEVER GIVE UP!

I think that we could have figured this out.

What People Say Can Define Their Future

There is one easy way to determine who is going to succeed and who will fail. You can tell by the questions and comments people make. Such as........

"How long will it take for me to make money?"

That tells you they are more interested in the results rather than the action it will take to get those results.

Those who succeed make statements like the following.

"Here are my results after 3 months by following this program."

Notice that money is not the focus. Success minded people instinctively know they can and will succeed. They know that by following a plan that other successful individuals have followed they will also succeed at their own pace.

When they start a new program they are more focused on the progress they are making instead of the fact they haven't achieved the financial results just yet. They have confidence in their ability to succeed as long as they are following a proven plan and never give up.

Successful people have the patience to succeed.

Conclusion

The biggest reason for success and failure are on either side of the same coin.

  1. People fail because they quit too easily,
  2. People succeed because they never quit

Everything else although important, is secondary.

What do you think? Please share your thoughts in the discussion area below.

I wish you much success in your affiliate marketing journey.

Edwin

This reminds me of the famous rain dance. Perhaps you’ve heard of it?
A remote village in a hot country (a secret location), had built up a reputation over some years for being able to turn on the rain by dancing. An explorer went in search for the village to try to learn their secret.

One day, way off the beaten track the explorer was directed to the village. In the centre of the village, the explorer found a man dancing to the rhythm of a lone drummer.

He asked the dancer how the dance worked. It was the drummer who explained that the dancer was not allowed to stop, that they didn’t know how it worked and suggested that the explorer went to visit the village’s wise man. As you know, every village has at least one wise man.

The wise man welcomed the explorer to the village and asked what had enticed him so far off the beaten track. The explorer explained that he hoped the villagers were willing to share the secret of their famous rain dance. Apparently, the wise man surprised the explorer with: ”Certainly, what do you want to know?”.

Now, cutting a long story short... through asking many questions the explorer learned that all the villagers were taught to play the drum, and to dance until they were teenagers. When they turned 13 years old they all got involved in the village tradition. They each took a turn at dancing and drumming, sometimes solo and sometimes in groups of two or more.

The explorer commented that the wise man must be very proud of the spirit of cooperation in the village. The wise man of course, agreed.

”So... when do the villagers know to start dancing” asked the explorer.
”They start dancing when the rain stops and they can see the sun, or the moon and stars.” said the wise man.

”Okay... and how long do they dance for?” asked the explorer.
The answer came back: ”As long as it takes”.

Not being quite satisfied with this imprecise answer the explorer asked: ”Then... when do they stop dancing?”.

By now I’m sure you can guess at the answer ... but I’m going to tell you anyway.

The wise man said:
”Isn’t it obvious? With great teamwork, and unswerving persistance, I have known the villagers to keep the dance going day and night for up to 2 years. They never stop until the rain starts again”.

So next time it rains, have a thought for the dancers and their drummers.

Thank you Edwin.

Oh my god that’s really interesting.
Thank you for explaining us about differences between fail and success.
What failure/successful you say is totally accurate.
I understand student feel pain.
Sometimes it’s hard to study. Sometimes you don’t like your job at all.
I just want people to success in the future. You gotta believe in yourself. Never let failure get you. It’s okay to make mistakes. Just relearn/reflect what you made mistakes.
You can do it!
Never Give Up is the best quote we want to hear.

WOW Casandra, you've got this! I wish you much success in your affiliate marketing business.

I think the google comparsion is eye opening Edwin, I have never clocked that. I think the fear of failure in our marketing is often key. And yet as one of my mentors says :

"Who cares about those that don't like what you have to offer forget it and move on really quickly, they have. Those that do like what you have to say will come and work with you".

She also said about marketing and income "no-one is coming to save you from failure only you, so just do it...if you don't you have failed anyway so what's to lose... nothing.."

Great share thanks...

Thanks Phil for your comments. We always have the choice of evaluating our failures and make changes to our strategy rather than quit. If we continue to do something that is constantly failing that is not good either. I think you got it.

All the best to you.

I have been studying this subject on and off since the early 1980s. I agree with your conclusion about being persistant and... sorry...

I disagree with a few points.
1. What we think (as opposed to what we say) drives everything we end up doing (including what we say).
2. Persistance (or not) is a result of our mindset which in turn is part of our subconscious ’programming’ for want of a better term,

It is common for us to consciously think about what we want yet achieve a different outcome to what we hoped for.

Our conscious willpower can make a difference to what we achieve in the short-term but always loses out to our subconscious mindset over time unless our mindset gets updated.

We have the ability to update our mindset however most people don’t realise this and therefore do little about it except by accident.

This is a big subject; the use of our minds, and is largely the driver behind the websites that I am developing.

Go well
Richard

Hi Richard,

We have an interesting dichotomy. Some people think that the term not quitting is to carry on a course of action even if it is not working. That is not what I had intended.

As you mentioned we have our minds to make adjustments along the way. Like sharpening the saw. When something doesn't work many just quit rather than analyzing why they were not succeeding and make necessary adjustments.

I didn't develop this direction as I didn't want to go too deep.

Thanks for your participation. Really appreciated it.

Cheers.

Edwin

Hi Edwin... thanks for this feedback and for clarifying your intention... which I totally agree with.

Richard

You’re most welcome Richard.
Edwin

Great and very true most are always worried about when they will make money. It comes with time and persistence. And following the program as directed.

Cheers,
Mathew&Deloris;

Thanks Matthew and Deloris for your thoughts.
