We all know about the movie West Side Story. Do you know that each of us has our own Web Site Story? And it is told by your very own Site Manager! Here is where you can see the health of your website shown graphically and with numbers.

I am sure that most of us who have been here for a while are familiar with this valuable Premium benefit. Perhaps a refresher may be helpful. For those who are new and haven't checked it out, this is yet another amazing tool that Wealthy Affiliate provides, to give us an edge in our affiliate marketing business.

My web site story was not doing so good recently. Its health was poor. That is one of the reasons why I made s decision to do something about it. Here is my WEB SITE STORY that I hope will be helpful to you.Spoiler alert. It has a happy ending!

Site Manager

There are many sections in Site Manager. I am going to select just a few to illustrate how it helped me improve my website site health. The first part of Site Manager shown below gives you an overview of your site health.

In case you need a reminder it says when you created your website in the top left. You can see the dates of the latest backup. It happens daily. The most important indicator is that green bar on the top right.

Before I started to add more posts it was shorter and red in color. I edged it along first to yellow, then blue and finally green. Notice there is still room for improvement.

A summary of how many pages, posts and comments I have. It was indexed in Google a few days after I had published this site. The next most important indicator is that Site Plus ratio. We will look at that later. First I want to show you why the green bar tells me my site health is awesome below.

I wish I had captured a screenshot before I took action. Let ne describe instead.

  • Publishing Frequency - RED
  • Visitor Engagement - Yellow
  • Plugins - RED
  • Google Ranked - GREEN
  • Content Quality & Variety - GREEN
  • Your Engagement - GREEN
  • Site Trust - YELLOW
  • Website Feedback - YELLOW

It wasn't all bad. But the two that negatively affected my site performance were the ones in RED. Lack of publishing frequency penalized my rankings. And having excessive plugins affected my mobile site speed.

Content

At that time I had published only 47 posts. That number is now up to 56. Still, not good enough but getting better. Until I exceed 100 posts I cannot expect to attract the traffic I need to get sales in the MMO niche. My main thrust is to attract referrals to Wealthy Affiliate. I am not doing so well yet.

My goal is to publish at least two posts a week and aim for three. If I can maintain three posts in about three months time I should hit my goal of 100 posts.

Any newbie who is not getting much traffic or sales note that the most successful members here related to sales have at least 300 posts published over a time span of two to three years.

. It is after that first 100 that you start to see the traffic curve turning the asymtote. That is a mathematical term meaning starting to take off exponentially.

Site Speed - Selections

Let's see the Site Plus results to discuss this performance area. Click the blue script under Site Plus to get to the following screen. Pardon me being so specific. I am doing this because it was not intuitive to me when I first started to explore Site Manager. Believe me, my intention is not to talk down to anyone.

If you haven't already done so, turn the three switches for SiteSpeed, SiteSSL and SiteProtect to ON. Then select Extreme caching option. Notice this screenshot indicates I have not cleared my cache. I just did this and a check mark appeared next to it.

I suggest reading what the benefits are for each of these functions. If you are new, this should increase your feeling of pride for being a member of Weallthy Affiliate Premium.

Site Speed Results for Desktop and Mobile

The following table lists all your posts and pages with an indication of site speed performance for desktop and mobile.

Notice there is a scroll down bar to expose every post and page on your website so you can see how they are performing individually.

When I checked this out before I adjusted my plugins, a few of the desktop buttons were yellow and many of my mobile were showing red. It is a good idea to click the refresh tab to see what the real time performance is before taking action.

After deactivating plugins I don't need at the moment, like the running timer, all my desktop indicators are green. My mobile is a mix of green, yellow and one red.

When I saw red, I clicked the G icon on the right. It took me directly to Goolge Page Speed Insights where you can see a real time analysis of your post taking place, You are shown graphically what is causing the speed issues along with the corrective action you need to take to remedy the situation.

I am going to leave you to check that out for yourself. When you see poor results that doesn't mean that your post will not work in a mobile device. Wealthy Affiliate behind the scenes support takes care of that.

What it means is that there are factors on your post, usually related to images and videos that causes an excessive delay in terms of a few seconds before the user sees it. The exact time delay is provided.

Corrective Action

The first corrective action I took was to review all the plugins I had. Those I felt were not necessary at the moment I deactivated them. You do not need to delete them. When I need to use those services again, I will reactivate them and live with the lower mobile speed.

Taking corrective action as suggested in Google will take more time. I don't consider that urgent as I have verified the mobile performance of the worst offenders are good enough for the moment.

I hope sharing my recent website story will help you to discover yours and learn what action is necessary, if at all, to improve the health of your website.

Have fun with this valuable tool.

Cheers!

Edwin

Great post Ed - I have an older non-WA site that isn't performing and various SEO audits help but get really confusing. I'm assuming I can't run a site check on that site unless its on the WA hosting platform, so I'll have ti keep struggling with that - I have a few strategies to follow, but time will tell.
I've also just started a new site (WA hosted) - only 1 post so far, but great to know I can track its progress as I get more posts up.
The good thing is that what you learn on one can be applied to the other.
Thanks again for the info
David

If your other site is based on WordPress you could transfer it to WA for hosting as well as for domain renewals. Then you could apply the WA tools to it.

Glad you liked my post. Thanks for your comments.

Thank you for taking time to open up the various parts of site Manager. There are so many sections of WA for all kinds of information, that we sometimes forget where to look. I check Site manager quite often and check my site health. It's great to see it inch forward, even if it isn't where you want it to be.

Glad to hear you are taking advantage of the Site Manager. Having checks and balances helps us to give attention to areas that need it the most.

As always, I wish you much success in your affiliate marketing journey.

Edwin

Thanks I’m gonna check my sites health right now 👍🏿

That is awesome! Please return and share your results. Thanks!

Hi Edwin,

Thanks so much for reviewing your health revealed in the site manager.

I did 2 things that you recommended. I changed the site speed caching option from accelerated to extreme & cleared the cache. These 2 adjustments changed 30 of 32 posts to green when most were red or yellow on mobile.

Great post. Made my day.

Bob

Amazing news Bob! Glad that this was helpful. Thanks for sharing.
