Owning Life's Ups and Downs
Greyson Chance
You may wonder what has Greyson Chance got to do with my topic. Eight years ago when he was 13, Greyson performed Lady Gaga's song Paparazzi at his school concert. Someone took a video and posted it on YouTube. It went viral and he became an overnight sensation.
Since then Greyson has experienced many ups and downs. I went to see him perform at The Roxy on Sunset Blvd. on Saturday, March 16. He was on tour to launch his Portraits album. The concert was incredible.
But what caught my attention more than his singing was a little sermon he gave about what he had learned about life. Greyson is 21 now and told his fans that being older he has accepted that life has its ups and downs. And that we should own it. With each down there are actually more ups.
Mountain Tops and Valleys
A long time ago I heard this analogy about life. Without valleys there would be no mountain tops. Greyson's talk reminded me about that. When we have failures or things are not going the way we want them to, we need to work our way to higher ground so we can appreciate the view from the top.
As long as we keep moving, we are bound to find our way to the top. If we stand still, we shall remain in the depths of the valley.
Growth Through Incremental Improvement
It is rare that we experience a jump from muddling along to instant success. That is possible like Greyson Chance going viral. That video got the attention of Ellen. She has since had him on her show several times. Ellen also predicted that he would become a sensation.
That never happened in a hasty manner. Greyson Chance had a series of missteps largely caused by people in the entertainment industry he thought were well-meaning, But they really wanted to ride his coattails to making profits When his career stalled he was dumped.
It took persistence and working very heard to maintain his creativity. Greyson Chance has broken free from failure through persistence and hard work and is now making a comeback. Incrementally.
A solid foundation in our growth is based on taking baby steps. It is growth through incremental improvement that helps us build sustainable success. It is uncanny that when success is achieved rapidly it is often fleeting. Don't let incremental improvement fool you. Slow and steady is what creates lasting success.
The Wealthy Affiliate Way
Doesn't what I said sound familiar? Off course, it does as it is the Wealthy Affiliate way. We are not promised easy and rapid success here. Right from the start it is instilled into us that it is going to take hard work and time to create a successful online business. The focus through the many training modules is to build success incrementally. It is more important to do each step right rather than hurry along and do a half-baked effort.
When we struggle it is crucial to ask for help instead of giving up. Struggle is actually good. The lessons get more ingrained into our system and we achieve solid long term success.
Show Business Analogy
Many artists in show business have short careers. My opinion is that these artists were more interested in fame rather than creating value for their fans.
Our business formula to success is to create value to our customers and to use the skills we learn to make the connection with potential customers as easily and routinely as possible.
Emotional connection with an audience is what is key in making the sale. It doesn't matter if that is in show business or in affiliate marketing. We need to help people feel good through solutions. The more solutions we provide the more successful we will be.
The Right Attitude
We have to own our failures and our successes. If we blame external forces for our failures we cannot learn the lessons on how to overcome failure. It is folly going through life thinking that our failures are always caused by others. This is a sure way to never succeed.
Let's own our failures so that we can rightly own our successes.
That is indeed the right attitude to have.

Very good post. If we are in the valley, we can't see the view from the top until we climb up there. May we all make that climb successfully.

I see where you’re coming from ha! Are you a Lady Gaga fan? She’s quite a talented musician not just in singing. I like how in WA we’re all cheer leaders!
Great. I agree 100%
In anything you do, there are ups and downs. The key to success is how you respond, when you come up against stumbling blocks and things aren’t going well. It is easy to quit and walk away. But that is when you need to press on and keep going. There is always a solution. There is always a way forward. Maybe you just haven’t found it yet!
Thank you for your encouragement and words of wisdom.
I like your thoughts about we just haven’t found success YET! But we will if we press on. Thanks! Edwin
