My Domain Name Is Appraised By Go Daddy For $1000

There has been several posts recently about the value of a domain name.

I got an appraisal of the domain name of one of my websites that I have not been working on for 18 months since I changed my niche focus for the moment.

When I joined Wealthy Affiliate in December 2018 I bought my first domain within WA called myonestoplegal.com for $13.99, renewable annually.

When I changed my niche to MMO in response to the Super Affiliate Challenge, I put this on hold. It only had 25 posts and I plan on returning to it in the future.

After reading Jim Kulk's post about investing in Domain names I decided to check out its value using Go Daddy. The screenshot below is shown below:

Go Daddy Appraisal

Notice on the right the reasons are provided used for the basis of this appraisal. Am I jumping up and down seeing that $1000 valuation?

NO!

Like real estate, the value can only be confirmed by the price a buyer is willing to pay. And I have no intention of selling.

I also entered the domain name of the site I am currently developing. affiliatemarketingforleaders.com. It appraised at $182. I'm not concerned as my objective is to add value to this website.

Have you had your domain name appraised?

Cheers.

Edwin

P.S. I added this several hours after publishing the original. Here is the link for the Go Daddy appraisal site. Please do not take thisn as Gospel. Treat this as a fun activity. Our websites become much more valuable after we succeed in making them generate passive income on a regular basis.

Hi Edwin,
Search this phrase - The smart choice for buying & selling domain names - on google and then select the link by GO-DADDY, which should be the second link (unless it changes between now and when you do so). I tried posting the link itself here but the system does not accept it. Hope you get some clues if not all the answers you are seeking from that link. Thanks.

Hi Ben,

I followed your directions and came across a Go Daddy website auction page. It required a $4.99 annual subscription. Will this provide a different result compared to the site I listed in my article?

Thanks for commenting.

Interesting,
I have an unused domain I want to sell. I recently transferred the hosting from SiteGround to WA hosting as the 3 year hosting there had expired and hosting is free for me here.
QUESTIONS:
1. To sell it on GoDaddy would I first have to move the hosting there?
2. What is the best way to sell an unused domain? (I tried registering with Sedo, and sent them an email but couldn't register and have no response)
Thaks in advance

Hi John,

I don't know the answers to your questions. Hope someone here can answer them.

Cheers.

Edwin

You can join GoDaddy for free if you're selling. You will then be charged a staggered commission. I believe it's 20% for the first $5000 , then it drops at different levels.
I'm not sure what went wrong with Sedo for you, I joined them and was immediately accepted. Jim

Thanks for chiming in Jim. You’re the Man for trading in virtual real estate.

I do wonder how accurate godaddy's domain appraisal is. The reason I say that is because after I checked the value of both of my websites, I decided to see if it would show Wealthy Affiliate domain appraisal and needless to say, it did. Let's just say I was shocked at the price as I thought it would be MUCH higher than what came back.

Hi Brian,

I found the Go Daddy appraisal more of an amusement than anything else. Until someone makes you an offer, a domain name is not worth anything.

My website is not for sale as I want to add value to it to pay me back over time.

I wish you much success in your affiliate marketing business.

Thanks for the idea Edwin!

I actually bought a domain (BustMyFat.com), set up a site, and did one post on weight loss. But I lost interest and shut the site down months ago lol.

But still got the domain which is valued at $894 according to GoDaddy. So might try to sell or flip it.

I think if the domain is short enough, sounds catchy, and targets a particular industry/niche, I reckon we have a good chance of selling it.

Got for it. Thanks for sharing.

No problem :)

Go Daddy Appraisal is very useful! I put in my domain names and they came up $500 and $1082 respectively...I'm amazed!

They only have about 30 pages on each and don't have much traffic. Can't wait to see what the appraisals will be when they do have traffic.

But like yourself, I have no intention of selling...

Thanks for the inspiration!
