When you work on your business, like writing content, conducting research, or creating graphics, do you listen to music? If so, what kind?

I love to listen to classical music as it provides a feeling of calm that helps me focus better. The compositions I pick also matter. My favorite composers to work by are Bach, Mozart, and Debussy.

My First Concert In Over Two Years

We are very fortunate to have a world-class concert hall twenty minutes from where I live. It is called the Soraya in recognition of a major sponsor of the hall.

It is part of Cal State University, Northridge, and built on campus. Parking is no problem as most events are scheduled when classes are not in session.

I took the cover picture above, showing the front of the Hall after attending a concert at The Soraya on March 10th.

Two years ago to the day, this Hall was closed because of COVID. The final performance was given by an illustrious Chamber Orchestra from London, England, called The Academy OF St. Martin In The Fields. The work they performed then was Beethoven's 9th Symphony.

They returned on March 10th, 2022 to performed the following works:

Overture to The Barber Of Seville by Rossini

Violin Concerto by Dvorak,

Adoration by Price

Symphony No. 4 by Mendelssohn, also known as The Italian Symphony

The soloist for the Dvorak was the famous violinist, Joshua Bell. He is also the music director of this orchestra.

The Hall was packed. I'll share more pictures I took after the event below.

The Orchestra After The Concert Was Over

Hall Orchestra Seating

The total seating capacity is 1,700. I'd call this a medium-sized concert hall. For comparison, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown LA is 2,265. That is the home to the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. Disney Hall as it is most commonly called is structured as a piece of art. I'd call The Soraya design, functionally beautiful.

The Loge And Balcony Levels

I had a great view from a seat located in the Loge Center Aisle.

The Lobby

The view when leaving the Loge Level is spectacular with the large expanse of glass frontage.

If you ever visit LA, take in a concert at The Soraya. The choice of events covers an impressive range of categories, like Jazz, Broadway, Dance, Contemporary Music, etc.

Plus, the acoustics of the Hall is fantastic.

I had a great time attending a live classical concert after many years of concert drought.

It's back to work now feeling refreshed. Headphones on and Bach Brandenberg Concerto. playing.

This is absolutely AWESOME, Edwin!

I LOVE classical music and Beethoven is my absolute favourite.
His life fascinates me.

I quote:
"By the time he wrote his Ninth Symphony (which includes “Ode to Joy”) he couldn't hear a single note. Think about that for a second. Beethoven's Ninth Symphony is one of the most important classical pieces of all time. It was the first symphony to combine a choir and solo vocalists with a full orchestra."

The Ode to Joy brings tears to my eyes whenever I hear it or think about it.
The most brilliant piece of music ever written, in my humble opinion.

We are in the UK for summer this year and I am looking forward to attending a few performances.

Thank you for sharing.
Cassi

I have music on whenever I sit in the office to work on my WA stuff... Actually I have music on pretty much anytime I'm home!

I love everything really, but have a real love of Bluegrass, especially The Dead South. If you like Bluegrass Edwin you should check these guys out.

If I'm writing it's either the Rolling Stones or some Creedence.

Mark,
Glad that I am not the only one who likes listening to music while I work. Good for you. Bluegrass is cool to listen to. But for other occasions and not while I'm working g. It would distract me too much ha!
Edwin

Yes It has done that to me on a few occasions Edwin :)

If I want to be in the mood to be productive and creative,
I need to play music all throughout the day
It gives a different atmosphere, vibes and feeling
Both to the mind and to everyone around you.
I do appreciate the special effects that listening to music always brings.
Awesome orchestra and concert, Edwin

Hi Simone,

Although I love listening to music I intersperse it with the news and other things. But it's only music when I am working.

Glad that you also work with music.

Yes, that Hall was wonderful. There are several good concert halls in the Southern California area. There is another one in Thousand Oaks that I plan to visit in April. It's quite a bit further than The Soraya.

I'm listening to a brilliant young Russian pianist to recordings on YouTube he made when he was 8. Without looking at the screen you would think it was an adult playing. His name is Elisey Mysin.

Thanks for commenting.

Cheers.

Edwin

I've heard about him
He is awesome

Wow, way to go Elisey! He is 12 now. Elisey started giving concerts when he was 8.

He is not alone in this illustrious group. There are so many musical child prodigies from all over the world. I think it is his cherubic face that has caught the attention of music aficionados.

All the best Simone.

Edwin.

It is beautiful indeed ;)

Occasionally, I'll listen to some classic Rock music, Edwin, but most of the time I listen to world news on Sky News Australia, DW (A german news netword), and British Public Boradcasting. Also Fox news, but not of the petty Main Stream Media Channels which continue to put out all their baloney!

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Can you focus on your website work while listening to the news? I cannot do that as I'd get very distracted.

I find it helpful to listen to music instead.

Thanks for responding.

Edwin

Actually, yes, Edwin! I have no issues with that, my friend! I like to keep myself informed somewhat of what is going on in the world. I don't always listen to the news though.

I also listen to classic rock every now and again, and other times, silence regns supreme!

Jeff

I love listening to Lynard Skynard, Ted Nugent, Alabama among other classic rock and country singers. I saw Ted Nugent perform at Dodgers Stadium in 1976.

As you can see my musical taste is eclectic. However, I am very selective about what I listen to when I am working.

Cheers.

Edwin
