Facebook & Instagram Down. Now what?

If Facebook and Instagram are your main social platforms to promote your affiliate marketing business have you noticed that there is a widespread outage of these platforms? WhatsApp is also sown. It is no coincidence that they are all owned by Marc Zuckerburg's Facebook organization.

Government Scrutiny

Facebook and Instagram are both facing Government scrutiny for manipulating their subscribers in a damaging manner in order to increase clicks. They haven't given a reason for being down for over three hours but stated they are working to restore service.

Some think this action is deliberate to cause pain and to encourage their users to protest the Governments actions.

The issue is how Facebook allows damaging posts to propagate, even when they cause harm to people, especially children.

Inoculation Time!

Whatever the reason, this made me think about a principle in our business that is widely accepted.

That is to focus on just one platform and become very good at using it to get results before introducing another platform.

There is a solution. But it requires a paradigm shift. Instead of perfecting the use of one company's platforms to promote our business, we should start developing two. It is critical that there is no connection between the two.

In this way, we can inoculate ourselves from being dependent on one social media group.
We know that Facebook owns Instagram and WhatsApp. And Google owns YouTube. There may be others that are related. So do your homework before making your choice.

My personal choices are Facebook and Pinterest. They function in decidedly different ways. Facebook primarily uses text. Pinterest uses imagery.

It will take more work to perfect the use of two unrelated social media platforms but this effort will not leave you stranded if one goes down.

Over time you will be adept at using multiple platforms so issues like this will not be disruptive compared to only using one.

Are you impacted by this current downtime of Facebook and Instagram? How are you compensating for this situation?

Looking forward to your comments.

Cheers.

Edwin

I must be the only person on this platform who is NOT impacted by this outage.I have and do focus on building out my content their because it then gets foiund by the search engines and that is all under MY Control

I also use YouTube daily, because it is a search engine.

The other positive thing to come out of this is that no one can post any abuse on the platforms aimed at anyone.

Hi Dave,

Facebook won't let me post links to my website. They said it breaks their rules. It never used to be that way. So I don't go on Facebook much.

*** Excellent suggestions, Edwin! ... there seems to a monopolistic tendency with the tech-giants becoming even more gigantic -- kind of like the big fish eating up the little fish.... 🐟 🦈...

... and indeed, the bigger they are, the harder they'll eventually fall or so the saying goes ... must be due to gravity! ... lol ...

... keep well, cheerio ... :)) ***

Great to hear your perspective Keisha.

There are other platform to use. WA is one of them, work on website or use other social media. Eventually, they will come back up. Good points Edwin, can find other ways to compensate our marketing efforts. We can focus on other media services that are still online. YouTube, or LinkedIn. I don’t use FB OR IG except for personal use with my family. That’s about it.

Great to hear your insights Brenda. You got this right!

Wow!

What a surprise!

I thought that maybe FB finally banned me!

I wonder if they'll be back up soon or maybe they won't be!

My biggest concern is all of the pictures that I have on their platform, time to back stuff up better.

Is FB vital for Your Business?

Thank You for Sharing & Caring,

Tony

Hi Tony,

I do not depend on FB for my business even though I use them. Facebook will not let me post links to my affiliate marketing website saying I am breaking their rules. When I asked them what rules I was breaking they haven't replied.

When I post my links on FB I deliberately leave a space between the dot and the com. I then tell my visitors why I do that and that they need to copy and paste my links in their browser followed by closing the gap. What a pain. I have no problem posting links to Wealthy Affiliate though. My guess is that someone must have complained about my post along the lines because at one time I could post links with no problem.

My preference is Pinterest.

Thanks for commenting Tony.

Cheers.

Good morning my brother, yeah it blew my mind today. I thought they put me in Facebook jail and I said what the heck I didn't do anything hahaha. You're right never put all your eggs in one basket, you must be on every social media platform each and every day, that's my way of thinking. Have a wonderful week my brother, may Prosperity hold you tight.

Hello Earl,

Besides FB I only use Pinterest and YouTube. And occasionally LinkedIn. I do have a Twitter business account but have not used that much. Maybe I should.

As long as we're getting our presence out there on a daily basis to as many people as humanly possible, we will always have a shot of reaching our goals. And you my brother, you're doing well have a blessed day.
