There is a well-known saying, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail." Do you agree with this statement?

If so, have you created a business plan of which in my opinion the daily plan of action is the most important?

We all have or should have short, medium and long term goals. It is crucial to recognize that making goals is not planning. You have no control when you are going to achieve these goals. But, you do have control on a series of actions that are designed to help you reach your goals.

Action plans can be created based on activities you do every day, and specific intervals. These intervals can vary from 2 to 7 days. I use 7 as that keeps one's focused on no further than weekly activities.

Human nature being what it is makes it difficult to plan actions too far into the future. I'd like to list the most important activities we should be doing to build our affiliate marketing business.

This list is not written in order of importance. Perhaps you can decide that order right for you.

10 Business Building Activities

  1. Learning a new skill
  2. Researching material for a new post
  3. Keyword Research
  4. Writing a new post
  5. Giving site comments
  6. Request site comments
  7. Using Social Media to direct attention to your posts
  8. Use lead generating systems, free if possible, to generate website traffic
  9. Set up an Email marketing system
  10. Network with other members within WA to discuss your ideas

Feel free to add or subtract other tasks that are pertinent to your business goals. Now that we have this list, the next step is to create a daily schedule when these activities will be done.

Weekly Schedule & Time Management

The following is a weekly activity plan scheduled over 6 days. Saturday is left free to be used as a day off. Alternately it could also be used as a catch up day for any tasks that have fallen behind.

Time is valuale. Hence time management will play a critical role in accomplishing the tasks shown. Hence I have assigned real time limits to complete each task. However, the best laid plans of mice and men, etc. etc. etc, That is why I have not included a column for Saturday. If catch up is necessary, Saturday is the day to do that.

Notes:

  1. Since the time to request site comments is so low, I have used an X instead.
  2. Included i the 15 minutes scheduled to publish content, is a request for a URL Inspection in Google Search Console
  3. Ideally, three articles should be created each week. I consider two articles minimum.
  4. I give 3 site comments a day with 15 minutes assigned to read the article and comment.
  5. The Friday training is set aside for Jay Neill's weekly webinar.
  6. The total weekly hours add up to 28. If a task needs more time then these hours will increase. They rarely decrease.
  7. It is OK to work a different amount of hours each day. That is the beauty of working from home!

Task Checklist

Using this table it is possible to create a weekly task checklist to measure one's progress. Time is valuable. Hence, it is important to stay focused and complete each task in the time assigned.

Staying on track is the best way to meet the goals we set for ourselves. The best way to stay motivated is to do everything needed to get some results, meaning sales, no matter how small. Success breeds success. Small successes can add up to big successes over time.

Action Plans

Within Wealthy Affiliate there are many blog posts and training that provide alternate plans of action. I recommend doing your own search to see if you can find other plans that may give you other perspectives on this subject.

It doesn't matter what the quantity of activity you do each day and each week. The important thing is to make a plan and keep following it regularly.

If it helps, combine forces with one or more members to share your plan. In this way you can check with each other on a weekly basis to compare notes on how well you have been able to follow your plan. This creates a way to be accountable to someone else.

It is uncanny that when you have to report your progress to another member how effectively that will motivate you to complete the tasks you set for yourself to meet your schedule.

What Is Your Plan Of Action?

Cheers!

Thanks very much for this Edwin.
This is something I have always struggled with.
I seem to flail around from one day to the next with no fixed course.
I have now made an Excel spreadsheet similar to your example so all I need to do now is follow it!
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
        Cheers,
        Rab

Glad this was of help. You can do this Rab.
        Cheers!

I always enjoys reading members' posts here at WA. I always tend to categorise the ones that I will either read again or do a bit of research on to gain the full benefit. I categorise them as extra special and they are given a star. Your post falls into that extra special one and I've just given you a star. Thank you for this post! I'm now back on track

Hi Simone, I am honored that you consider this post good enough to have earned a star rating from you. That is such a good idea to qualify posts in order to benefit from them in the future.

When I come across a blog here that has useful information I can use, I bookmark it using the green star at the top left.

        Thanks for commenting.

        Cheers.

I absolutely agree with this approach. Im struck by the relatively few hours you work on WA compared to your success. Which goes to show planning works.

I have a business plan. It needs an update. Thank you for the reminder. I also have a supporting to do list a big part of my time goes on research. But I need to focus again on the training.

        Haveva great day.

        Trevor

Thanks for your response Trevor. Notice that I left Saturday free to play catch up? I often have to do that so I end up spending more than 28 hours a week.

I wish you well in your revised work plans.
