Are you looking for a computer that can edit and process video effortlessly? Until now, it could cost you a thousand dollars or more? Enter the new line of Apple Macs that have ditched the Intel processor in favor of their first Apple designed silicon for the Mac.

Apple has built up tremendous experience in designing processor chips for the iPhone with great success. The OS and Processor design go hand in hand to achieve the highest efficiency possible. Users can experience this with longer battery life combined with higher performance.

So why not do this for the Mac?

M1 Chip

Unlike the Intel Processors where Intel does not control the Operating Software, Apple does. They introduced their Big Sur OS for the Mac that was designed to provide optimum performance when used with the M1 Macs. PC computer manufacturers cannot do this as Microsoft controls the operating system design.

Apple designed the M1 chip to include components that in their Intel based computers consisted of add on chips. 5 nanometer metal is used for the circuits compared to 14 nanometers for the latest Intel i9 chip design. That is one of the reasons why Apple can pack so much more into their chip compared to Intel.

You may ask why doesn't Intel do that. The answer is simple. Intel has to sell their chip to a multitude of customers. Hence, they need to keep prices as low as possible as well as give these customers more flexibility.

Apple doesn't have this constraint and can design their chips to maximize performance for their computers alone. Also, Apple is a bigger company than Intel and has more capital to invest to be more innovative. By making their own processor they do not have to pay the "Intel Tax."

For these reasons and others, the specs alone do not give a fair indication of the actual performance of the computers. It is how everything works in harmony that provides the exceptional results.

Independent users have measured performance that far exceed anything that other PC's of similar price range can deliver. Especially for video processing.

Let's look what's inside the M1 Chip.

The M1 has 16 Billion transistors and can perform 11 Trillion operations per second.

Let that sink in. These numbers are mind boggling.

This is a complete system on a piece of silicon that takes up less space and makes everything work faster. As well as using much less power compared to the Intel chips. You can read more details in this review by Apple Insider.

3 New Computers

The following computers were the first that Apple recently introduced based on their M1 chip. Note that these computers are also available using the Intel chips. The only reason to buy these is if you need to use software that can only run on an Intel based computer.

However, CodeWeavers announced that CrossOver 20 now works on Apple Silicon Macs, which means that the new M1 Macs can run Windows software right on MacOS using the built in Apple's Rosetta emulation software.

Apple just introduced three M1 based computers that at the price, blows the socks off the competition.

Note that, all of these computers compare well to the Intel based Mac-Pro that costs over $5000. The Mac Mini desktop computer is that square block under the monitor.

Read what The Verge had to say about this paradigm shift that Apple has unleashed on the computer world:

"The conversation has flipped instantly: it’s no longer “why would you take a gamble on Apple’s new, unproven processor” but “how will competitors like Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm respond?”

You can check all of these out at Apple's The Future Of Mac. You can also see how an expert describes his first experience with the desktop version the Mac Mini.

    A Timely Christmas Present

I've been hesitating going into making videos for my affiliate marketing business because my ASUS $209 Windows laptop is grossly under powered to do a credible job editing video. This is a great laptop for everyday use such as to create my blog posts. But I need something more capable for video editing.

Today, I purchased the M1 Mac Mini for $669 on Amazon, the Black Friday sale price. I already have a monitor, keyboard and mouse that I use with my laptop. Hence, this Mac Mini will fit right in, I'll use is as a stand for my monitor. Not kidding. It is about 7" square and 1" thick.

I will need to get a camera to attach to my monitor to make videos that I want to appear in. That is not going to be an issue.

Some of the major advantages of the M1 Mac Mini is its fan is so quiet according to the reviews, you hardly hear it when it comes on. It also has the same performance as the new M1 MacBook Pro. If I want to carry it with me say to a hotel, I can with my monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Do You Have An M1 Mac?

If you have purchased an Apple M1 Mac, please share your experience in the comments below. I won't be getting mine until mid December, so I have to be patient. That is why I am calling it a Christmas Present.

There was a hard decision I had to make in order to afford this computer. It came down to a choice of upgrading my WA membership to Premium + or the Mac Mini. Since my premium membership is paid up till March 2022, I decided to go with the Mac Mini.

Once I earn my first $1000 in affiliate marketing I will happily upgrade to Premium +. My thinking is if i cannot earn $1000 with Premium alone, I should not be in this business. What do you think?

I am hoping the wait to upgrade will not be too long.

I wish you much success in your affiliate marketing business.

    Cheers.

    Hi Edwin,

I have been away & now going through the 500 posts to view & comment.

My son in Sydney advised he had ordered the M1 Mac Mini & was eagerly awaiting its release.

Now he has it & is over the moon how great the Mini is.
It has far exceeded his expectations.

As for me, I will stay with my Windows laptop, as the move to Apple would be too difficult at my tender age of 79. LOL
My first work computer was a Wang twin floppy - no hard disc. Showing my age Edwin,

Edwin, I thought about getting the M1 MacBook Pro 13 inch. I thought about the Mac Mini but I do not have 4k or 5k display. My current MacBook Pro is a mid 2012 and I can’t upgrade it to the Big Sur OS. I am curious what kind of display monitor do you have? Any recommendations? I know it would be an added cost. I do have LG 4k 50 inch UHD TV it could be done connected to HMDI, I think. I think I need to get a hub port for that I do have one that connects my current laptop. I can use that but its not a retina display like the new M1 MacBook Pro. The mini seems more cost effective but I have no desktop monitor display for it. I am sure how that will work with a tv unit- any suggestions? Thanks, Edwin. I agree with what you wrote. I read in Apple News that the reviews are great, developers are raving about it.

Hi Brenda, check out this link, The author answers your question perfectly: https://www.imore.com/absolute-best-monitor-mac-mini

My monitor is a low resolution screen. I will be using this to start of with and upgrading later on when I can afford it.

    Hope this helps.

    Sounds great, Edwin!
A great excuse to give my Mac Airbook to my wife and buy the new M1 version😊

I think your wife will love the Mac Air Book ha! Thanks for commenting.

    Edwon

Yes, She's still on an old Windows laptop. She uses her iPad Pro most of the time but she loves my Macbook Air - so light!
I might also replace the Mac in my digital recording studio with an M1 to help eliminate residual audio latency through amplifier and effects modelers.

The M1 Macs use so little power and do not generate much heat at all. Hence, the new MacBook Air works wonderfully without a fan. Even tough the Mac Book Pro and the Mac Mini have fans, they hardly come on. And when they do they are so quiet the reviewers have all said you hardly hear it. Compared to the Intel Macs.

Amazon informed me that mine will be arriving on the 6th or 7th. Far earlier than they had promised, the 14th.

    Can hardly wait.

    Cheers.

    Thanks for the info, Edwin!

    You're most welcome.

    Edwin

Thanks for the information as I have been looking for something for my son. And I’m sure you will make that $1000. Best wishes
