9 Months Review - Writers Block!

It's been almost two weeks and I have not written a new post for my website. Nor have I written a post for my Wealthy Affiliate Blog. I never thought it would happen but I am experiencing writers block! I am sure I am not alone in going through this phase. Are you too?

There must be a reason that I am going through this so I thought I'd explore that thought here.

Subject Matter

I have written a plethora of articles that promote the benefits of the Wealthy Affiliate training enticing readers to join. No takers so far.

My thoughts are what to do next as this is the main reason for my Super Affiliate Challenge site. I want to sign up new members of course. The only ideas I can think of is to do reviews of Affiliate Marketplaces or on various scams.

The former would be to expose visitors to my site who are looking for affiliate sources that provide the products in their niche. My problem is I have not registered for any of these yet. Like Awin, Clickbank or even Amazon. So how am I to review these and give advice with no personal experience?

Can anyone provide suggestions on how to do this?

When I checked out how others do this online I found someone who studies articles written by others and uses these as sources to create his own unique article.

Is this a legitimate way to approach this subject?

What about scams? I have seen an enormous amount of articles on scams. In fact Site Comment has sent several of these for review. I often wondered how these authors found out about all these scams. Perhaps I need to do some research in this area.

Number of Articles

So far I have written only 37 articles in my Affiliate Marketing website. My goal is to reach 100 this year. If I am struggling now, how will I find material worthy of writing articles that provide valuable information to visitors?

If you are able to share the approach you use to come up with ideas in the Affiliate Marketing MMO niche, I would be eternally grateful.

Maybe this is something I need to program my mind to do before going to bed.

Falling Behind

What this means is I am falling way behind in the Super Affiliate Challenge goals. Not good. I don't think I would be alone in this shortcoming. If you started the Super Affiliate Challenge do you happen to be in this situation?

There are other areas that I am falling behind. Such as posting mu existing articles on social media. Perhaps instead of trying to create new articles I should review the lessons on how to do this effectively and share these links there. 37 articles would be a good number to share at this phase in my development anyway.

Nine Months

It has been nine months since I joined Wealthy Affiliate. In this time I have published a total of 64 articles on my two websites. My first was based in my legal services niche. And the second, my MMO niche promoting Wealthy Affiliate. I feel that it's time a baby needs to pop out, metaphorically speaking!

I need to show results.....

When I started the SAC in March, I paused my legal services website development to focus exclusively on the MMO niche. I have not moved at all in the classic affiliate marketing world promoting products that are sold on big online stores like Amazon and other affiliate marketplaces such as Awin and Clickbank. I feel if I had gone that route I may have made more progress.

That is water under the bridge as the saying goes. I decided to jump into the MMO field because I am passionate about the Wealthy Affiliate training platform. It may be more challenging because of greater competition. But the rewards can be above average too.

My goal is to have at least one sale this year. So I netter get cracking and find out what I must do to achieve that goal.

Closing Thoughts

In the grand scheme of things, this is a great problem to have. What better way to spend my time than to help others achieve their financial goals through affiliate marketing.

Aha! I think I;ve got it. I need to find out categories of individuals in other fields who may be struggling and write articles to get their attention. Once I do that, then offer them the solution of affiliate marketing. I have already written so much about this topic, it would be easy to share the links to these articles in my new articles

I think I know now where I need to do some research. It's amazing that in the process of writing this blog post my mind opened up to new ideas.

However, I would still love for you to share how you come up with articles to write anyway.

Maybe that will help you too!

This is interesting. You actually brainstormed yourself and found a solution. Great exercise.
If you are stuck for a while, don't be harsh on yourself. Just take a couple days break, divert your attention to something else, or go for some 'nature walks', then come back refreshed and energised. It does work for me. Good luck.

Hi Caruana,

Thanks for responding. It is interesting that Kyle just wrote a blog on the subject of going through fatigue in going through the courses here: It came at the right time fore me. I wish you all the best.

Cheers!

Edwin

Hi Edwin. Sounds like you are going through a lull. Like a metaphorical pregnancy your wanting that baby to come now. Your assuming that 9 months is normal but in some cases it is longer.
Be patient, keep doing some research. I just started using google "keywords everywhere app" for Chrome. If you haven't tried it give it a shot.
Lost for subjects research your competition. Look at ways you can add to the topic or improve it.
You'll make it.
Ray

Hello Ray,

I am so grateful that you took the time to respond. Your words were very helpful.

It was serendipitous that Kyle addressed the topic of fatigue in his Month 5 Super Affiliate Challenge training in his private message today. If you are part of the SA then you will have received it too. In case you haven't here is the link: The solutions he suggested are mirrored in many of the responses I have received. As the saying goes, great minds think alike.

Wealthy Affiliate has built a phenomenal community of individuals who help each other in situations like this. And for that I am truly grateful.

I wish you all the best in the world.

Edwin

I often write / type things out similarly to what you did here..but it's just for me. Nobody else ever sees it. The whole purpose of it is there is simply something "magical" that happens when you write it all out.

Whether it frames it slightly differently or simply dumps it out of my mind so I can think clearer I am not sure. Perhaps is a combination of the two.

I only know that doing that almost always gives me several ideas potential solutions by the time I am done. Usually never even finish the original "track" because I am writing down the new thoughts the ideas I am getting and expanding on those.

On the affiliate marketing thing... I think it's quite possible some of the people writing those reviews haven't actually bought and tested all of those things. They are simply doing marketing.

The reviews generally seem to include the word "scam" in the title because apparently many people search for product names + "scam" trying to find out if something is legit before they spend their money.

From what I have seen... there are two main ways they use it... one is seemingly negative and then end up speaking favorably about the product or service and promote it with their affiliate link. The other is to write why they don't like it and then recommend a different product.

On writing... depends entirely on the subject. I can write all day about Internet marketing, the experiments I have done, things I have learned, etc. Same for game design and game development.

I can't do that with just any topic. Some things it is like "pulling teeth" as they say.

Is the reason just last night I bought a new domain for online income information. This one I can easily write 1 or more posts about every day. Then work on the other sites as much as I can.

Some things it's are just more natural to write for each of us I guess. Or quite possibly it is just these harder ones we haven't found our angle our "voice" for yet.

Not sure if any of this helps but I wish you the best of success!

Believe me you have been very helpful. You got the gist of my blog. And writing is cathartic and can answer the questions one asks subconsciously.

This morning I was flabbergasted to see Kyle had covered the topic of fatigue in his Month 5 Super Affiliate Marketing Training. In thought I'd share it with you as his solutions make a lot of sense: Thanks for helping me out with your response. I wish you all the success in the world.

Edwin

Writing down a problem (or a recent argument) can be cathartic, same (I am sure) can be said for writers block, in fact as you were writing the above post you started to get out of your own head and look at what you could possibly do, come the end of the post you said I think I know what I can next do....you had by completion had an answer to your problem, you could then have deleted the post but why would you...it’s like magic...you can always look back on this post some time down the line, or indeed refer others to it.

As others have already said, you will find a way out, it’s just don’t stop trying.

I have been watching Ricky and co from “Income School” and they often say the early months are like a like a ghost town and don’t expect anything super-funk until month 10 or even the first year. I think they have training equivalent to our WA and their’s is called project 24 (meaning 24 months.)...and just like WA they too are respected in the industry. So all of the greats are saying the same thing.

So don’t beat yourself up, in fact go and watch a motivational You Tube clip, & heed the advice of the successful who say it’s a marathon not a race and remember the tortoise beat the Hare in the end, this because he was tenacious, steadfast and reliable.

Just like you 🐌. (couldn’t find a tortoise emoji...so found a snail lol)

Hi Cordelia,

A truly appreciate your ideas to help me get back on track. As you noticed, at the end of this Blog I got a new idea and will be researching it to see how I can implement it within the Affiliate Marketing Training sphere.

I did check out Income School and noticed the Project 24 webinar. I will be checking that out this weekend to learn from that. Wealthy Affiliate is a great place and it is reassuring to get validation from other like minded teams.

When I checked my WA messages today I found Kyle's latest course on the Super Affiliate Challenge Month 5. And what do you know, he anticipated that many of us would be facing fatigue. This was normal as he still does. So he created a blog on this and how to overcome it. Just like the members here have been advising me with their own independent thinking. Here is the link in case you don't have it already: I feel we are all in good hands here. So take care and thanks for your words of advice.

Cheers.

Edwin

If you have writer's block, you can do what I do lots of the time. I purchase PLR content and "Make it my Own" (see my training on this). Another thing is to just research PLR content and look over all the titles of articles, videos, etc available. You can be inspired by just the titles of things for sale.

For example, I searched "PLR and affiliate marketing) and got this link: https://www.idplr.com/affiliate-marketing-plr

Do a search just within that one PLR site to get some great ideas. a suggestion, on the ebooks PLR, look at the book chapters ajd contents lists for great ideas.
-Shirley

Wow Shirley,

That is a super suggestion. I will be checking that out. I will also be checking out your training in this subject.

Thanks so much!

Edwin

Edwin, you always come up with good posts. And you're right, putting things down sometimes is the way to break out of a slump.

Frankly, I was drowning in SAC and there was no way I could possibly catch up, There was too much I didn't know. My articles were good--Google indexed everyone, and I got good comments.
I had several say they were going to sign up--but no one has to date. I'm not sure content is enough to make it.It's important, but the other tech stuff is the vehicle to move it along.

I decided I was in the wrong place and I needed to back up and re-group. So, I went back and picked up my first website- I am in the process of bringing it up to date, and ,as I am able, I plan to continue the lessons and work both websites in my own timetable and rhythm. I feel better and more positive about my progress.

We all have our own avenues to travel.

Barbara,

You echo my thoughts. I was so honored to accept the SAC that I put my original website on hold. My legal niche was my main reason for joining WA. But I felt that I could start earning some income faster following the SAC since Kyle was heading that up. And that could still happen.

Once this course is over I shall be returning to my original website and will be updating that like you are doing. I applied for feedback on that site and got some great suggestions. Since it was my first website I didn't incorporate all that I learned in the SAC. I feel that my SAC efforts will not go in vain.

I wanted to let you know that what you said meant a lot to me.

Thanks.

Edwin

Hi Edwin. I am in the same boat and I am trying to step up my game, which involves a lot of talking to myself, lol. You will get out of this. I really enjoy all of your internal blog posts - maybe you can use the ideas from the internal blogs to use in your website....Best wishes my friend. Cheers Susan

HI Susan,

Kyle sent out the new topic for this months Super Affiliate Challenge course. Guess what it is. Fatigue! He must have read my mind. I haven't read it yet but I am sure he will have some ideas I can use.

While thinking out loud I have some ideas on how to proceed. So this process of writing it in a blog has been beneficial.

I wish you much success in your ventures. Thanks for reading my blogs. What you said is a good idea. Maybe reading my own blogs will give me ideas too!

Thanks.

Edwin

Hi Edwin, Joe, as always, has great advice. When you say 'writers block' is it that you are not feeling the love of writing or that you're struggling to find subject matter. I get the feeling from your post that it is primarily the latter ?
As many will attest, it happens to us all at various points. I'm not sure if there is 'one size fits all' solution, as it will depend on the 'why'. Personally, if this helps, I found that I had no 'love' for the content I was writing. I asked myself what I would like to write about (regardless or not if it was SAC or niche related).
It took me about four weeks before I had my epiphany. I have started afresh. I am writing content for a new site but as yet I am keeping it all in 'site content' so I am not feeling the pressure of regular publishing.
I have also finally started to write the book I have been promising myself I would do.
As a bi-product of doing these things I have published on my niche site and feel confident that I will continue to do so.
That was how I got through it, of course, regular posting here helps to keep the 'flow' going as well.
Hope this helps.

Twack,

I love writing. My problem is to find my next topic that is meaningful. Since I am promoting the benefits of WA, the 37 articles I have already written seem to have covered everything I can think of. Hence I need to figure out what new angle to take that will connect with the WA training.

I think I found that out at the end of writing my article and stated what it is. IOW targeting various professions and finding the employees who are unhappy with their work environment and looking for something new where they are in control. I will have to do research for this and that can be fun.

It is ironic that the topic for this months SAC lesson from Kyle happens to be on the growing fatigue we must be having now. He must have read my mind!

Thanks for your insights. I like your idea or writing articles and keeping them in reserve to publish when you feel the time is right.

Cheers.

Edwin

Edwin, it is easy for me. I am new to this and write to learn and practice. So, I read and observe. My focus is not just the content but do I have a different view, a unique view. If I can present it with a new set of lenses, maybe someone else can relate to that too. A lot have been written but what do I think and can I communicate my perspective.

Stanley, if I understand you correctly you use your imagination to come up with unique ideas to communicate with others. Sounds good to me. Maybe I should try that too. Thinking out of the box they call it.

All the best to you.

Cheers.

Edwin

Edwin, you have arrived at the place we all arrive at at some point...writer burn out. My advice, and one I had to do myself, back off! You can’t be all things to all people. Be selfish! Think about what will be best for you.
Take some time this weekend to just chill. Let SAC take a back seat...I know that may not resonate, but I have found that many times I have simply bit off more than I can chew...I had to admit it.
So, my friend, cool the jets...we’re cheering for you and will be here next week when you are fresh as a flower!
Have a great weekend.
Joe

Hi Joe,

I don’t think this is writers burn out as I’m always itching to write. I love writing. My problem is figuring out what topic to cover next. Regardless, your advice makes sense to me. Stepping back for a weekend may help to clear my mind to open it to new ideas.

These responses will certainly help. It shows how WA members care.

All the best to you.

Cheers.

Edwin

Edwin, you have to do what works for you. I get too close to my writing and have to chill.
Yes, we care for you and are here for you. Enjoy the weekend.
Joe
